Linda F Hochstetler Social Worker, Consultant, and Workshop Facilitator helping Canadians make better decisions on death

I’m a registered social worker in private practice who wants to help you talk about your death and dying concerns. I am keen for the general population to feel more at ease around the topic of death and dying. I have more than 20 years experience providing counselling and social work conversations and discussions with individuals and family members. I am knowledgeable about Toronto’s palliative care hospital and home care services, as well as hospices and long-term care facilities. I help families discuss difficult topics together and complete Advance Care Directives and end of life wishes. I am an excellent problem solver and can help you listen to your heart and figure out what the next step is. Learn how to make well thought out decisions for end of life care. Clients tell me I am open, direct, positive, empathic, and fearless about talking about death and dying in ways that they have never experienced with any other grief counsellor. Issues I can help you with:
• Death & dying
• Uncertainty
• Depression
• Anxiety
• Grief and loss
• Changing relationships
• Making tough decisions

Who I work with:
• Individuals
• Couples
• Families
• Seniors
• Groups
• People who are dying, having health difficulties, or planning for their own eventual deaths
• People who are supporting others and their death and dying process

Just spent a week at the International Last Aid Conference in Liechtenstein. I skipped the translation service and proved that German still resides in my brain from 42 years ago? And also confirming for me yet again that people who work with dying and death live better and laugh more. I love these people helping everyone around the world prepare better for death in their own ways.

With Camino Magic healing my broken leg in around 2 weeks, I started carrying my own pack and headed off to Finnesterre - what people used to call “the end of the earth”. Also spent time in Muxia, the Ganges River of ancient Europe, where people traditionally went to die or send their ashes to be buried. Life and death. Many magical vistas and deep, profound conversations with strangers. Only on the Camino!!! ❤️🥾❤️

A broken leg (fibula) just 11 days from my flight date couldn’t stop me from returning to the Camino for the second year. With my doctor’s unbelievable blessing and a whole lot of Camino Magic, I completed 230km in 11 days of hiking without pain or injury. So happy to meet up with my dorm roommate from 44 years ago (Ramona), an intrepid world traveller and lover of life. After a week on the boardwalks and cobblestones of the Portuguese Camino, we went separate ways - me to slow down a bit and stop holding her back from the 30+ km days needed to complete it.

My dad, Daniel Hochstetler, died on March 16 at the age of 90 of congestive heart failure. He gave us all the greatest gift of love by completing his advanced care planning wishes. Twenty years ago he prepaid for his funeral and told us all exactly what he wanted. While I hope to never attend another visitation with an open casket and embalmed body viewing (too many toxic chemicals for my liking), I have peace knowing we followed his wishes in death exactly as he wanted. Rest in Peace, Dad. ❤️💀❤️

Just back from leading an Interbeing retreat at Xo Ki’in in the Sian Ka’an UNESCO biosphere south of Tulum, Mexico. The plastic garbage that washes up with the seaweed is heartbreaking. This year we gathered 42 bags of it and had only clearly a small section. Next time you buy a cheap bottle of water when you’re out, think about where that cheap plastic bottle might end up.
