A current theory posits that King Henry VIII had a hereditary problem that caused so many pregnancy losses.
The theory suggests he wss Kell+ and as his wives were Kell-, the antibodies created in the mother's body to King Henry VIII's biology resulted in the babies dying.
Of course, the women were blamed.
In this era, everyone truly believed that the King, nobility in general and the priest class had their status in life granted directly from God.
Everyone else was a peasant, merchant, in pain, suffering, etc because God had frowned on them.
It's a rather circular argument: you're in pain because you displeased God and as there is no cure for your pain, you will end up in hell. Them's the breaks.
This paradigm never quite explains when nobility are in pain, or have disease. I guess this uncomfortable fact was just swept under the carpet.
The Church managed to extract wealth from nobility by selling Indulgences. This was basically a promise to be admitted into heaven as long as enough money was paid to the Vatican. Nice gig...because, how would anyone know for sure? Once someone is dead, there's no Customer Complaints department.
Anyhoo, King Henry VIII did us all a favour by causing a break in the iron hold the Vatican had on the world. As an ex-Catholic, I am not disparaging Catholics. There are many very good people and clerics who are a blessing to humanity.
What most thinking people agree is that the Vatican (it has its own unique status as a country) has been deeply corrupted and isn't a leader of Christ's unconditional love. The Vatican harboured N***s in WWII and worse.
