Reflections of the Sole Take a holistic approach to improving your health and creating balance in you life. What is Reflexology?

Reflections of the Sole offers reflexology, acupressure, Aroma Reflexology, Hot Stone Massage and Asian Reflexology Reflexology is a healing technique based on a system of reflex points in the head, feet and hands that relate to the entire body. Using manipulation of these reflex points, reflexology treats the whole person, not just the prevailing symptoms. Manipulation of these reflex points aids the body in releasing tension, increasing circulation and boosting immunity, while stimulating the body’s natural function of the related area of the body. Reflexology can be used as a way of relaxing mind and body in order to maintain health and balance in your life. TREATMENT 1 hour Head, Feet and Hands $70

What is Acupressure? According to the principles of tradition Chinese medicine, the body has vital energy called "chi" or "qi" that flows along invisible lines of energy flow called meridians. There are thought to be at least 14 meridians connecting our organs with other parts of our body. Acupuncture and acupressure points lie on those meridians. If the flow of qi is blocked at any point on a meridian, it's thought to be the cause of ailments and lead to disease anywhere along the meridian. That's why a practitioner may apply pressure to an acupressure point in the foot to relieve a headache. TREATMENT 75 min Minutes

🌿 Reflexology & Your Endocrine System

A Gentle Way to Support Hormonal Health

Your endocrine system is a remarkable network of glands that produce hormones — tiny chemical messengers that travel through your bloodstream and help regulate almost every function in your body.

These hormones influence:
✨ Sleep
✨ Energy
✨ Mood
✨ Stress
✨ Metabolism
✨ Growth
✨ Fertility
✨ Blood sugar
✨ Bone health

When your body is under chronic stress, inflammation, illness, or hormonal change, these delicate systems can become disrupted.

Reflexology is a gentle complementary therapy that applies pressure to specific reflex points on the feet, hands, or ears. While research is still evolving, studies suggest reflexology may help activate the parasympathetic (“rest and digest”) nervous system, improve relaxation, reduce perceived stress, and enhance overall well-being. These effects may indirectly support healthy endocrine function by reducing one of the body’s biggest hormonal disruptors: chronic stress.

Let’s explore the incredible glands that make up your endocrine system…

🧠 1️⃣ Pituitary Gland — “The Master Gland”

Location: Base of the brain

What it does:
The pituitary produces hormones that regulate many other endocrine glands, including the thyroid, adrenal glands and reproductive organs. It also plays a role in growth, reproduction, water balance and breastfeeding.

👣 Reflexology point:
Found on the tip of the big toe.

💚 Potential benefits:
Gentle stimulation may encourage relaxation, improve circulation and support the body’s natural self-regulating processes.

🌙 2️⃣ Pineal Gland — Your Sleep Clock

Location: Deep within the brain

What it does:
Produces melatonin, helping regulate your circadian rhythm (sleep-wake cycle).

👣 Reflexology point:
Centre of the big toe.

💚 Potential benefits:
Many people report deeper relaxation and improved sleep quality following reflexology, although more research is needed.

🦋 3️⃣ Thyroid & Parathyroid Glands

Location: Front of the neck

What they do:

🦋 Thyroid
• Controls metabolism
• Regulates body temperature
• Supports heart function
• Influences energy production

🦴 Parathyroids
• Maintain healthy calcium levels
• Support strong bones
• Assist muscle and nerve function

👣 Reflexology point:
Base of the big toe.

💚 Potential benefits:
Reflexology may help reduce stress and improve circulation, which may support overall wellness alongside medical treatment.

🛡 4️⃣ Thymus

Location: Behind the breastbone

What it does:
The thymus helps mature T-lymphocytes (T-cells), essential immune cells that protect your body from infection. It is especially active during childhood.

👣 Reflexology point:
Just beneath the ball of the foot.

💚 Potential benefits:
Gentle stimulation may promote relaxation and support healthy immune function through stress reduction.

⚡ 5️⃣ Adrenal Glands — Your Stress Responders

Location: Sitting on top of each kidney

What they produce:
• Cortisol
• Adrenaline
• Noradrenaline
• Aldosterone

These hormones regulate:
✔ Blood pressure
✔ Stress response
✔ Electrolyte balance
✔ Energy production

👣 Reflexology point:
Inner arch of each foot.

💚 Potential benefits:
This is one of the most requested reflexology areas, as many clients find treatment deeply calming during periods of chronic stress.

🍬 6️⃣ Pancreas

Location: Behind the stomach

What it does:
Produces insulin and glucagon to help maintain healthy blood glucose levels.

👣 Reflexology point:
Primarily on the left foot beneath the ball of the foot.

💚 Potential benefits:
Reflexology should never replace diabetes treatment but may contribute to relaxation and overall wellness as part of a healthy lifestyle.

🌸 7️⃣ Ovaries / Te**es

Location:
Pelvis (ovaries)
Sc***um (te**es)

What they produce:
🌸 Estrogen
🌸 Progesterone
💙 Testosterone

These hormones influence:
• Fertility
• Menstrual cycles
• Libido
• Muscle mass
• Bone density
• Mood

👣 Reflexology point:
Outer heel region.

💚 Potential benefits:
Many people choose reflexology as a supportive therapy during hormonal transitions such as menstruation, menopause or fertility journeys.

🌿 The Science So Far

Current research suggests reflexology may:

✅ Reduce stress and anxiety
✅ Promote relaxation
✅ Improve perceived well-being
✅ Help improve sleep quality
✅ Lower sympathetic (“fight or flight”) activity
✅ Support healthy circulation

Scientists are still investigating exactly how reflexology works. Proposed mechanisms include nervous system modulation, changes in autonomic nervous system activity, improved blood flow and the release of endorphins.

There is currently no strong scientific evidence that reflexology directly changes hormone levels or treats endocrine diseases, but it may serve as a valuable complementary therapy that supports the body’s natural healing environment.

🌱 The Bottom Line

Your hormones don’t work in isolation—they communicate constantly with your nervous system, immune system and lymphatic system.

By encouraging deep relaxation and reducing stress, reflexology may help create an internal environment where your body can function more efficiently. While it should never replace medical treatment, many people find it to be a gentle, calming therapy that supports their overall health journey.

💚 Disclaimer: Reflexology is a complementary therapy and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent disease. Always consult your healthcare provider regarding hormonal disorders or any changes to your treatment plan.

NURSING HOMES WEEK: 18 - 24 AUGUST

A recent study in eight Cairo nursing homes found that foot reflexology significantly reduced chronic low back pain and improved quality of life among elderly residents 💆‍♂️💪

Participants who received 9 reflexology sessions over 3 weeks reported:
✅ Less pain (measured across 3 scales)
✅ Improved ability to perform daily tasks
✅ Reduced reliance on pain medication

With no side effects and big benefits, this research highlights reflexology as a powerful non-drug option for managing chronic pain in older adults.

In this episode, I’m sharing why it is so easy to assume that the foot is solely responsible for bearing our load and why this isn’t truly the case. Discover the importance of learning how to adequately transfer load, the impact this has on the way your foot functions, and some ways to find stability to enable you to transfer and absorb load.
