Active women will sometimes brush off high lipid levels because they eat well, exercise, and are fit. Or they’ll get a clear coronary calcium scan and think they’re in the clear regardless of lipid levels. Being fit does not protect you from heart disease and a clear calcium scan doesn’t reflect your real risk, as this week’s Hit Play Not Pause guest preventive cardiology dietitian Michelle Routhenstein, MS, RD, CDN explains. We still need to manage lipids and inflammation and blood sugar to keep our hearts healthy longterm. And, if you want a more accurate scan, you can look into a Cleerly-enabled (CCTA) scan, which shows dangerous soft plaque, too.

We dig into all things menopause and heart health this week. Tune in wherever you get your podcasts.

We all hear a lot of advice about what–and what not–to eat; what supplements to use; what therapies we need, etc and so on. In the end, we are the best judge of what works for us. So, if you try something and it doesn’t work for you, it’s not something you’ve done wrong. It just doesn’t work for you. And that’s okay! Nourishing yourself in this time of life means having agency and feeling empowered to make your own personal health choices, says this week’s Hit Play Not Pause guest Andrea Donsky, RHN, author of Nourishing Menopause: Powerful Nutrition and Lifestyle Strategies to Feel Your Best.

We cover all that and much more this week. Tune in wherever you get your podcasts.

So many women have been taking care of others for so many years (or decades) that they’ve lost sight of themselves, of what’s important to them. The menopause transition is the perfect time to zero in and ask, “What do I want from this next chapter of life,” says this week’s Hit Play Not Pause guest, menopause and mindset coach Sara Larson. We explore what that conversation can look like, as well as navigating all the challenges this time of life can bring.

Active and athletic women often have the deeply ingrained belief that if they do “everything right”—exercise, eat well, have a healthy lifestyle–they won’t need hormone therapy. That narrative needs to change. Research shows that active women have menopause related symptoms, too. We’re not immune from our ovaries shutting down and hormones changing.

Hormone therapy is just another way that you’re taking care of yourself and, as this week’s guest, world champion athlete and health and performance coach Sonya Looney explains, it’s high time we normalized it. Hear more wherever you get your podcasts.

🦴 Your bones need strain to stay strong, explains this week’s Hit Play Not Pause guest, Professor Belinda Beck, PhD. The two most potent forms are bending them under load and through quick impact forces.

Dr. Beck saw the big benefits of both on postmenopausal women with osteopenia and osteoporosis in her groundbreaking LIFTMOR trial. We talk all about what happens when you bend your bones, the process of bone remodeling, peak bone mass, estrogen, menopause, the foundational role of nutrition, and much more in supporting stronger bones for life.

Caption: Women have been conditioned to think of menopause as a gynecologic issue, because it’s linked to menstrual cycles, says this week’s guest, menopause expert Dr. Heather Hirsch. But it’s a whole body event, impacting our overall health, including bone density, cardiovascular function, mood regulation, and more. And it’s time we treat it that way.

We dig into all that, prescribing hormone therapy during perimenopause, and much more this week on Hit Play Not Pause. Tune in wherever you get your podcasts.

Result? Total transformation—connecting her deeper self. Unlike most of life that takes, it gave back peace, calm, and centeredness.

We unpack Jenny's perimenopause journey, unexpected symptoms, relief strategies, and why we don't have to quit what we love as we age. 🎧 Listen wherever you get your podcasts.

In running, we celebrate grit, determination, pushing through pain, overcoming adversity, and ultimately crossing the finish line, whatever it takes.

That looks good on Instagram, but what does it do to us in reality? What does it do to women in midlife and menopause who often find themselves bogged down in a succession of injuries? Most importantly, how do we ultimately process it all and determine what’s right for us?

We dig into all the hard questions with longtime runner, co-founder of Another Mother Runner ( ) , and now author of The 27th Mile: How to Smooth the Rough Transition Out of Your Running Years, Dimity McDowell ( ).
