‎Since July 29, 2025, IRCC has been including the officer’s decision notes with refusal letters for visitor visas, study permits, work permits, and visitor records.
‎
‎This means applicants no longer need to request GCMS notes separately, the details come automatically with the refusal.
‎
‎The goal is to help applicants clearly understand the reason for refusal and prepare stronger reapplications.
‎
‎NB: This does not apply to applications submitted through the new IRCC portal.

‎Canada has announced new PR pathways that will open in 2026, so this should be worth paying attention to if you’re planning your move or already in Canada on a temporary status.

‎The government will be introducing several routes targeted at people who are already contributing to the Canadian economy, including:

‎- A pathway for up to 33,000 temporary workers who have established themselves in Canada and want to transition to permanent residence.
‎- A dedicated PR option for H-1B holders in the U.S., especially in tech, healthcare, research, and other high-demand sectors.
‎- New opportunities for foreign workers in construction, agriculture, and fish processing, where labour shortages remain a concern.
‎- A permanent PR program that will replace the current Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot (EMPP), offering more stability and access for skilled refugees and displaced individuals.

‎Canada held a new Express Entry Canadian Experience Class (CEC)-only draw for eligible candidates on November 26, 2025, inviting a total of 1,000 eligible immigrants to apply for permanent residence.
‎
‎Some of the main eligibility requirements for the CEC include:
‎- One year of full-time skilled work experience in Canada within the last 3 years, and
‎- Intermediate official language skills (English and/or French) among other criteria.
‎
‎The minimum CRS score for this draw is 531.
‎

‎Canada held a new Express Entry PNP-only Draw on November 25, 2025, inviting a total of 777 eligible candidates to apply for permanent residence. This is the first Express Entry draw after CRS points change.
‎
‎The minimum CRS score required to be eligible for this draw is 699.
‎Invited candidates are expected to have previously received a nomination from a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) and are expected to have created an Express Entry candidate profile before 01:16 am Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) on September 06, 2025.

‎Manitoba has released details of its latest draw where 35 candidates were invited to apply for a provincial nomination on November 21, 2025.
‎
‎The invitations were issued to the Skilled Worker stream candidates (Skilled Worker in Manitoba + Skilled Worker Overseas) with no minimum Expression of interest (EOI) points specified for this invitation round.
‎
‎NB: Of the 35 LAAs issued in this draw, 5 were issued to candidates who also had an active Express Entry profile and a job seeker validation code. All invited candidates have 60 days from when they receive their Letter of Advice to Apply (LAA) to apply for the provincial nomination.

REMINDER: As of March 31, 2025, the right of citizenship fee for adults has increased to $119.75. This adjustment raises the total cost of applying for Canadian citizenship to $649.75, including the $530 processing fee. Minors' processing fees remain unchanged at $100.

IRCC has indicated that Canada is likely not going to meet its Permanent Resident admissions target for 2025.
‎
‎From January to August, about 276,870 new PRs were admitted. To hit the full target of 395,000, over 118,000 people would need to be admitted in just four months, and that’s looking unlikely with the current pace.
‎
‎2025 also has lower targets overall compared to previous years. The federal government reduced the overall numbers from 485,000 in 2024 to 395,000 this year, and PNP allocations dropped from 110,000 to 55,000. Some provinces have also paused certain PNP streams, and the rate of PR admissions is slower than what we saw in 2023 and 2024.
‎
‎For anyone planning to apply, this may mean increased competition and potentially longer wait times. If you’re already in the process, this is a good time to make sure your documents are complete and stay updated, especially if you're pursuing the PNP route.
‎
‎Canada is still welcoming immigrants; just not as quickly as initially planned. So staying informed and being strategic about your immigration journey will be important this year.
