You don’t get what you want you get what you are

09/16/2026

Nothing changes until you do.

A lot of people can get into a new relationship pretty easily but a new person doesn’t automatically create a new pattern.

Without doing the inner work, we often bring the same wounds, fears, attachment patterns, people-pleasing, self-abandonment, and need for validation into a different relationship with a different face.

The real work is becoming more aligned with your truth. Living authentically. Saying what you mean. Setting boundaries. Trusting your intuition. And no longer giving your power away in exchange for someone else’s validation, acceptance, or permission.

Because healthy love isn’t only about finding the right person it’s about becoming the kind of person you want to meet.
We don’t always get what we want. We tend to create relationships from who we are, what we believe we deserve, and what we’re willing to accept.

👉You wouldn’t want to feel safe because…
Then you’d have to stop confusing anxiety, unpredictability, and emotional intensity with love.

👉You wouldn’t want to build deep trust because…
Then you’d have to risk being fully seen instead of protecting yourself through walls, distancing, or control.

👉You wouldn’t want healthy boundaries because…
Then some people might be disappointed in you and you’d have to learn that disappointing someone doesn’t mean abandoning them.

👉You wouldn’t want to communicate your needs because…
Then you couldn’t expect people to read your mind and use their failure to do so as proof they don’t care.

👉You wouldn’t want to trust your intuition because…
Then you’d have to stop letting fear make every decision for you.

👉You wouldn’t want secure love because…
At first, peace might feel unfamiliar when your nervous system learned to associate love with uncertainty.

And that’s the paradox: healing can initially feel uncomfortable precisely because the familiar pattern even when painful feels predictable.

Secure attachment isn’t finding someone who never triggers you. It’s becoming someone who can experience a trigger without automatically allowing it to determine the story you tell, the choices you make, or the way you love.

Breakups can become some of our biggest breakthroughs because they bring our deepest patterns to the surface.

They can reveal where we abandoned ourselves, ignored our intuition, struggled to communicate our needs, lacked boundaries, people-pleased, or allowed our attachment wounds to choose our behaviours.

The goal isn’t simply to “get over” someone. It’s to get to know yourself more deeply because of what happened.

You can learn to trust your intuition again, cultivate self-love, build healthier boundaries, understand your attachment patterns, regulate your emotions, and recognize what you actually need from a relationship.

A breakup can leave you bitter, or it can make you better. ❤️‍🔥

We often forget that a breakup can be one of the biggest opportunities to create a BREAKTHROUGH.

Because even though some of our deepest wounds happen in relationships, they can also be healed through relationships and it starts with the relationship you have with yourself.

You can learn about attachment styles, boundaries, trust, people-pleasing, and trauma but none of it matters if you continue to isolate yourself and avoid connection.

We are born to bond. ❤️‍🔥

After heartbreak, we catastrophize, expect the worst, and project past experiences onto new opportunities for love.

Before I met Mary, I went from relationship to relationship over-giving, putting myself last, and abandoning myself in the name of love.

I had to become SELF-INITIATED on three levels:

Emotionally: I learned to regulate my thoughts and emotions so I could respond instead of react.

Expressively: I learned to honour my boundaries, communicate honestly, and create relationships built on transparency and vulnerability.

Energetically: I learned nervous system regulation, self-trust, and how to stop giving my power away.

The goal isn’t to become so independent that you never need anyone.

It’s to become secure enough within yourself that you can deeply love someone without losing yourself.

If you’re ready to become more confident and secure, heal from past relationships, and stop repeating the same patterns, comment “READY.” ❤️‍🔥

The question isn’t “who am I” it’s “who are you becoming?”

I used to be anxious, avoidant… and this is how it ruined my life.

And I never realized how much it was costing me.

I would crave closeness, then push people away when it actually showed up.

I’d overthink texts. Read into changes in tone. People-please to avoid rejection. Shut down when I felt overwhelmed. Self-sabotage good things because uncertainty felt safer than vulnerability.

I thought I was protecting myself.

Really, I was repeating the same patterns that were keeping me from the love, confidence and security I wanted.

Here are 6 things that helped me go from anxious/avoidant → confident & secure:

1. I stopped treating every trigger like a fact.
A feeling is real, but the story my nervous system creates
around it isn’t always true.

2. I learned to regulate before I reacted.
Instead of texting, withdrawing, spiraling or making impulsive decisions, I learned to create space between the trigger and my response.

3. I stopped abandoning myself to keep other people.
People-pleasing looked like love, but underneath it was fear. I started expressing my needs, boundaries and truth—even when it felt uncomfortable.

4. I learned to tolerate healthy discomfort.
Secure love can initially feel unfamiliar when you’re accustomed to chaos, chasing, uncertainty or emotional highs and lows.

5. I stopped making rejection mean I wasn’t worthy.
Someone choosing not to choose me didn’t determine my value. I learned how to belong to myself first.

6. I became the person I kept looking for.
Safe. Consistent. Honest. Emotionally available. Boundaried. Compassionate. Secure.

Healing wasn’t about never getting triggered again.

It was learning that I could get triggered without abandoning myself.

That changed everything.

If you’re a highly sensitive empath who keeps bouncing between craving connection and wanting to run from it, you don’t have to repeat that cycle forever.

Finding your person isn’t just about attracting the “right” person, it’s about becoming someone who can recognize, choose and sustain the kind of love you actually want.

You can want a safe, secure and emotionally available partner, but if chaos feels familiar, you may overlook consistency, abandon your boundaries or mistake anxiety for chemistry.

The work is becoming more regulated, secure and rooted in your own self-worth, not because you have to be perfectly healed to deserve love, but because who you become changes what you tolerate, what you choose and how you show up in love.

Become the safety, security and love you’re looking for, so when it arrives, you’re able to meet it there. ❤️‍🔥

As a highly sensitive empath, people-pleasing can feel like kindness, but constantly putting yourself last comes at a cost.

When you’ve experienced abandonment, rejection, humiliation, injustice or betrayal, waiting until you feel completely safe or ready can become another way of staying stuck.

Healing means learning to stop abandoning yourself to keep everyone else comfortable.

You don’t need permission to choose yourself. ❤️‍🔥
