Safe Space founder, Shalene Takara, was recently interviewed by the Okanagan Business Echo on her thoughts about business, leadership, the mental health field, and the important work of the Safe Space team.

We spoke about identity‑affirming, culturally responsive care, intergenerational healing, and expanding access to low-barrier mental health care by offering free/low‑cost therapy services to individuals, couples and families.

If you know any families impacted by the Lapu Lapu festival tragedy and needing support, our Expressive Arts Therapist, Samuel Romero, ExAT, is kindly offering Expressive Arts Therapy for free (pro-bono, space permitting).

As he previously worked as an Expressive Arts Therapist in the Surrey public school system providing expressive arts therapy to refugee children/youth, he has lots of experience supporting children/youth and families that have experienced significant trauma. He is able to provide support in English or Spanish, and virtually or at our office in Kitsilano.

We also currently have 2 Master's-level practicum student counsellors (Dhaniah Wijaya and Wendy Wu) who are able to provide support for free (space permitting):
