I grew up believing
that there was never enough room
for my feelings.

If I was tired,
someone else was more tired.

If I was hurting,
someone else had it worse.

If I was happy,
someone else’s suffering
somehow became part of it.

Eventually,
I stopped talking about how I felt.

Not because I stopped feeling.

Because I learned
my feelings were a burden.
