Chronic low back pain is often blamed on aging, wear and tear, or a disc problem. But another common cause may be facet joint irritation.

These small joints at the back of the spine help control movement and provide stability. When they become irritated by prolonged sitting, repetitive activity, poor posture, or degenerative changes, they can cause pain, stiffness, muscle spasm, and difficulty standing upright.

Proper treatment begins with identifying the mechanical cause of the problem, then addressing joint mobility, inflammation, muscle tension, strength, posture, and daily activities.

Read the full article to learn more about facet joint irritation and how a comprehensive approach can help break the cycle of chronic low back pain.

Do your calves cramp while you are sitting, relaxing, or sleeping?

Recurring calf cramps may be related to dehydration, muscle fatigue, poor flexibility, prolonged periods of inactivity, circulation problems, or nerve irritation. In some cases, medications or underlying health conditions may also contribute.

Simple changes such as staying hydrated, improving flexibility, taking regular movement breaks, and wearing supportive footwear may help. However, frequent or severe cramps should not be ignored.

A comprehensive musculoskeletal assessment can help identify muscle tightness, joint dysfunction, postural issues, or nerve irritation that may be contributing to the problem.

Summer is the perfect time to enjoy golf, hiking, cycling, tennis, pickleball, gardening, and other outdoor activities, but jumping in too quickly can increase your risk of injury.

Taking just 5–10 minutes to warm up can help improve circulation, increase flexibility, prepare your joints and muscles for movement, and reduce the chance of strains or stiffness.

A simple warm-up may include light aerobic activity, dynamic stretching, gentle static stretching, easing into your activity, and staying properly hydrated.

If you regularly experience pain or stiffness before or after activity, chiropractic care may help identify underlying joint or biomechanical issues so you can keep enjoying the activities you love this summer.

Stay active this summer with simple warm-up tips for golf, hiking, cycling, pickleball, gardening, and more. Learn how to reduce injury risk and improve movement.

Waking up with stiff, painful joints can make the first part of your day feel harder than it should. Morning stiffness is often linked to inflammation, reduced movement overnight, poor sleep posture, arthritis, previous injuries, and overall joint mechanics.

The good news is that consistent movement, proper sleep support, hydration, healthy posture, supportive footwear, and chiropractic care can all help improve joint mobility and reduce discomfort over time.

If morning stiffness is becoming part of your daily routine, it may be time to address the underlying mechanics before the problem becomes chronic.

Sacroiliac joint pain, often called SI joint pain, is a common source of lower back, buttock, hip, and pelvic discomfort.

While SI joint “hypermobility” is often discussed, many cases are driven by inflammation in and around the joint, followed by muscle tightness, guarding, and restricted movement.

Accurate diagnosis matters. Effective treatment may include chiropractic care, electrotherapy, ice, mobility work, lifestyle modification, strengthening, and assessment of foot mechanics or orthotics when needed.

Learn more about the causes, symptoms, and treatment options for sacroiliac joint pain in our latest article.

When you have mechanical lower back pain, “rest” does not mean staying still.

In fact, prolonged inactivity or bed rest can sometimes make recovery harder by reducing joint mobility, weakening muscles, limiting flexibility, and slowing circulation.

The better approach is smart rest: temporarily avoiding the movements and activities that aggravate the injured tissues, while continuing with gentle, controlled movement that supports healing.

Walking, light stretching, and appropriate therapeutic exercises can help reduce muscle guarding, improve circulation, and restore normal motion.

The goal is not to stop moving.
The goal is to move wisely while your body heals.
