This video is hard to watch and illustrates how important it is to not leave animals inside your vehicle in hot weather. Fortunately, both animals are alive when rescued.

🦌 Did you know our trash is a serious problem for our wildlife? 🐺

Not only can food bags and containers travel into yards, beaches, forests, and more, putting bears, deer, coyotes, foxes, squirrels, birds, raccoons, and other wild animals at risk, but wildlife and fish can also get tangled in, caught in, and suffocate in all types of trash - just like this coyote whose head got stuck in a laundry soap container in early July.

Wild Florida Rescue received a call reporting that the coyote was in a weakened condition and in distress. Upon arrival, the rescue team saw that the coyote was heading towards large thick woods so they netted her right away. They then used a pocket knife to cut a small hole for air while working to get the wedged container off of her head. The Rescue Ambulance arrived and transported her to a professional rehabber. The young coyote was dehydrated but healthy. After receiving medical care, she was released back into the woods. 🐺

Not every story of injured wildlife ends so well. So, what can you do?

βœ”οΈ Cut up your food bags before you dispose of them ⁣
⁣
βœ”οΈ Never leave trash outside, no matter where you are ⁣
⁣
βœ”οΈ Pack any food you take outside of the home in plastic containers rather than plastic bags⁣

βœ”οΈ Cut up all string, rope, netting, fishing line, and plastic drink holders before disposing of them

βœ”οΈ Crush all drink cans and food cans

βœ”οΈ Screw lids tightly on jars and containers

βœ”οΈ If you see an animal, bird, fish, or pet in distress, please try to help them or call for help

Little changes can save the lives of many wild animals! ❀️

We aren't always sure whether students are more excited about learning from the human instructor, or the live pets in our Pet First Aid classes! πŸ˜…

In this case, Delta the demo dog was an absolute hit last weekend in Calgary, and kindly helped throughout the day.

We do have to say, we are biased, and think that instructor Max Rioux of Going Forward with Max is pretty darn fabulous.
