Given that Ontario has abandoned its responsibility to health and actual safety, we are all now forced to be first responders. The Government of Canada has posted a list of locations (https://www.canada.ca/en/health-canada/services/opioids/naloxone.html ) to get Naloxone — a nasal spray (or, less commonly, an injection) that temporarily reverses opioid overdoses — kits for free as well as a tutorial on how to properly administer it: https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/video/how-administer-naloxone.html

Today, on International Overdose Awareness Day, we honour the lives lost to unregulated drugs and overdose and recognize the impact these deaths have across communities around the world.

In Canada, we continue to experience devastating losses, while governments across the country are moving away from evidence-based responses.

We are seeing supervised consumption services close, essential health services rolled back, and increasingly regressive approaches to drug policy take hold.

These decisions have consequences. Policy choices shape health outcomes, access to care and support, and the very conditions that make the drug supply so unpredictable and contaminated. They also shape how effectively we can prevent and respond to overdose.

Today, we remember those we have lost and renew our call for policies that address the root causes of this crisis and are grounded in health, dignity, safety and evidence.

There are events happening in communities across the country, organized by groups like MomsStopTheHarm, Vancouver Area Network of Drug Users, Blood Ties Four Directions Centre, Boyle Street Community Services, , RURAL EMPOWERED DRUG USERS' NETWORK, DIY Community Health Timmins and more.
