🎵✨ In the midst of beeping medical equipment and difficult moments, music creates space for something deeply human: connection.

Having spent 25 years as a music therapist at BC Children’s Hospital, Erin Delnea has seen firsthand how music can highlight the essence of a child, bringing children’s creativity and playfulness to the forefront.

“I don't think you can work with children without experiencing hope and laughter and joy in your day,” says Erin. “And that's probably a big part of the reason that I've worked here for so long.”

During National Porter Appreciation Week, we’re shining a spotlight on the incredible porters at BC Children’s Hospital and BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre.

Working behind the scenes, porters help keep the campus running smoothly. From transporting patients with compassion and care to ensuring essential medical equipment, supplies and specimens reach their destinations, their contributions are vital to care.

Thank you to every member of our porter team for your unwavering dedication and commitment to patients and families. Your work makes a difference every single day.👏💙

There are now more paramedics in the skies above BC than ever before, thanks to two new paramedic roles introduced at BCEHS: primary care flight paramedic and advanced care flight paramedic.

Primary care and advanced care flight paramedics focus on moving patients with low and medium acuity health needs between health-care facilities. Many flight paramedics specifically focus on caring for neonatal, pediatric and maternity patients.

Previously, critical care paramedics – who have the highest level of paramedic training in BC – would typically care for patients being moved by air. With more paramedics now trained to treat patients in the skies, critical care paramedics can focus on caring for the sickest patients, who need their specialized skills and training.
