Doing community outreach is always so bittersweet. It’s HOT outside and Vancouvers DTES doesn’t offer a lot of reprieve for friends who are out on the streets all day. Malcolm and I brought water, Gatorade, bananas, oranges, and treats. Electrolytes are key. We went down alleys and parks and talked to people; everyone was thankful, lots of hugs. Finally we dropped off a huge stash at the new Ashtrey Recovery resource centre. These places are always so underfunded, community supports are so important.

We are gathering at Grandview Park tomorrow evening to acknowledge the 5 year anniversary of seeking Justice for Jared. There will be fresh Devils Clubs sticks and beads as well as Devils Club salves and FTP soaps.

Indigenous Kitchen is reopening with a rebrand.
INDIGENOUS IMMIGRANT CAFE

For real.

This white man has zero shame. Vancouver Coastal Health allowed him to reopen on July 3rd after being closed down for Food Safe infractions. Since then he has two posts up desperately looking for a buyer of his “well established” cafe with “loyal customer base” for $19,999.
ALL CASH PURCHASE. In one of the posts he is seeking a 50% buyer, i have a feeling that 50% needs to be “Indigenous”. 🤮
He is still running the Indigenous angle after admitting to be a white man. Now he is tacking on “Immigrants”.
The caucasity is strong.
I’m sure next he will add disabilities to his ever growing oppression list.
Imagine if a real First Nations person had the opportunity to sell their, I dunno, soaps, from a prime high foot traffic location like this. Instead we have a White man profiting off of native people and culture, right in front of us. “Rooted in Indigenous culture, built by immigrants”. Wow. He used Ai immigrants on his poster! Is HE the immigrant in this scenario? I think that’s what he is suggesting. Which is it Vince?
In closing. This cafe sucks. Don’t go there. The food is awful. Don’t order on Uber Eats. Don’t buy 50%. Close him down.
Buy and support authentic First Nations products and services.

So my day off was actually spent with the elders at (whoopsie I forgot!) I taught them to make Bath Fizzies! I still consider this a self-care ❤️❤️❤️
We usually share lunch together before starting our workshops but I learned today that the funding for the Elder’s lunches has been cut😡 Sisters Sage stepped in and ordered pizzas for the elders on the fly today. They were so happy to have such a treat! 🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕
So here is my call out Sage fam, I am looking for people who may want to sponsor the Thursday lunches for the elders of Britannia community centre. Individuals and/or businesses need apply. DM and let’s set something up.

I’ve been burning that candle Sage Fam.
I’m tired.
Yesterday’s Unsettled Market was a huge success. I want to thank everyone who showed up for the vendors. Buying native helps us to actualize our own financial sovereignty, which is paramount to our safety. Us Nates have been dealt a s**t hand, and we are fighting for survival.
On that note, I’ve been fielding the worst of the worst comments and messages over the past few days leading up to so called Canada Day. All hurtful, bigoted, filled with hatred for me and my people. I’ve been trying to block and delete so that no one else needs to read and ingest the toxicity. I decided to close comments last night, which I don’t like to do, moderating is one thing, but completely blocking people from speaking really goes against my ethos, unfortunately. The comments were so awful, intervention in this way was necessary. Truthfully, I’ve been struggling with it, which is another reason why I’m closing today. I need a mental health day. So I’m going for a massage and lunch. Phone is going away.
I’ll be back at it tomorrow morning.
