Real time ultrasound imaging is a super fun tool and we’re only at the tip of the iceberg in how we think this will be used in pelvic health in the future 💭
It’s great for
👆 confirming our physical findings
👀 giving clients a visual to help their understanding
👌 confirming the optimal internal and external cueing for muscle recruitment
📏 there’s a few things it can see that we can’t feel - a game changer for diagnosis!
That said, it can’t do much alone. We use it as part of our toolbox, when needed, to confirm or add to our assessment and reasoning.
Here, Alex is using the image to add to what she learned about the abdominal wall from a history and physical exam. She’s looking at how the layers of abdominal muscles are being recruited relative to each other, and measuring the width of the linear alba. This is a common part of post partum assessment, especially when clients are experiencing doming and concerned about diastasis.
*RTUS is not always warranted. It can be quite time consuming, and there’s lots of technical skill involved in getting a good image. If you’re interested in RTUS, we can match you with an appropriate physio, or your physio may bring in a colleague to consult for best results.
