Have you heard of the “motherless mother” concept?

It’s about becoming the mother you needed while raising the child who needs you.

You are raising forward.

While grieving backward.

You’re building something without the blueprint you expected.

Some days that feels incredibly empowering.

Other days, it feels deeply unfair.

Because you didn’t choose this version of motherhood.

Loving your child doesn’t erase your own grief.

Sometimes, it brings it to the surface.

Healing doesn’t change the past.

But it can change what gets passed forward.

This isn’t about blaming parents or suggesting anyone has to parent perfectly. It’s about recognizing that our earliest relationships can shape the way we experience motherhood—and that awareness creates the opportunity to heal.

Had you ever heard of the “motherless mother” concept before? I’d love to hear your thoughts. 💛

In some families, keeping the peace doesn’t mean everyone feels safe. It means everyone learns how to manage one person’s reactions.

Over time, people may become quieter, ignore their own needs, avoid difficult conversations, or walk on eggshells just to prevent conflict.

When someone finally stops playing that role and starts setting boundaries, it can feel like a betrayal to the family, even though it’s often a healthy step toward change.

Family systems naturally resist change because change can feel threatening, even when it’s necessary.

Have you ever noticed this dynamic in a family? What did it look like?

We all know what it’s feels like to be misunderstood.

Sometimes the accusations we hear have very little to do with who we are and much more to do with the other person’s fears, insecurities, or unresolved experiences.

That doesn’t mean every accusation is projection. Sometimes feedback is worth hearing. But when something feels completely out of character, it’s worth asking yourself:

“Is this really about me?”

Have you ever been accused of something that didn’t feel true to who you are?

Apparently people think counsellors have a “favorite kind of client.” 😂

We don’t.

But we do appreciate people who show up, do the work, and occasionally laugh with us.

Your turn:

What’s the funniest assumption people make about your job? 👇

Life has a way of changing us.

The more we live, the more we learn. The more we learn, the more we adjust.

Sometimes that means changing your mind. Sometimes it means letting go of old beliefs, old goals, or even old versions of yourself.

That’s not inconsistency—it’s growth.

You don’t have to keep making choices that only fit the person you used to be.

Living means learning. Learning means adjusting. And adjusting is part of becoming who you are.

Being a counsellor is one of the most rewarding jobs… but it definitely comes with a few unexpected side effects. 😂

Every day, I have the privilege of witnessing resilience, growth, and people creating meaningful change in their lives. It’s a career I’m incredibly grateful for.

But let’s be honest… there are a few things no one warns you about. 😅

Which one surprised you the most?

👇 Or if you’re a counsellor, what’s one “con” you’d add?

This happened a couple of weeks ago.

A client finally got angry.

And I was genuinely happy.

I even told them.

Not because anger is the goal, but because healthy anger often means something has shifted.

For people who have spent years people-pleasing, minimizing their needs, or accepting what hurts them, anger can be the first sign they finally believe:

“I deserve better.”

It becomes easier to set boundaries, speak up, and protect yourself.

Sometimes, anger isn’t a setback.

Sometimes, it’s a breakthrough.

Have you ever thought about anger this way?
