Dr. Maya Matthews, ND Helping women reclaim their cycles and transform their periods so they can live fearlessly I’m a university student on my way to becoming a Naturopathic Doctor.

I created this page so that I could share all the amazing info that I learn in school and as I become a healthier person. Along the way, I have gone down a pretty tough path by dramatically altering my diet and lifestyle and while it was hard at first, it now feels extremely rewarding. I want you guys to learn from what I’ve done and to feel as excited about living a healthier life, just like the way I feel. I’ll share some awesome recipes, home beauty hacks, life experiences, and so much more!

Health isn't a destination, it's a journey.

It's something you're always working on, building, evolving.

I'm a doctor. And I haven't "arrived" at health. I'm constantly building towards the best version of myself.

That evolution is what keeps me going.

And if you're reading this, maybe you're already realizing that it's time for you to evolve. To start taking those steps towards becoming your most empowered self.

I work with the empowered woman who knows there's something more out there for her. She's realizing that her tummy trouble, sh*tty periods and brain fog are holding her back from stepping into her full expression.

Are you her? Are you the woman ready to reclaim her voice?

Our female hormones are cyclical.

We are meant to eb and flow.

Our mood, energy, motivation, desires, strength, and emotions are meant to be variable.

Testosterone levels in men are steady day to day, with slight variations hour to hour.

Whereas estrogen, progesterone and also testosterone levels in cycling women are different every single day!

No wonder we feel like we're going crazy if our emotions feel different and our motivation feels different every day!!

You know what absolutely lights me up?

Building up the powerful women around me.

I know you can reach your highest potential! I know you can kick some ass! I know you can be such a badass 🙌✊

I created this Cycle Syncing mini-training to help women explore their hormonal variations and actually work with their hormones instead of against them.

For $44 you can tap into your hormonal power with video training, workbooks, and recipe books.

DM me ✊✊, I'd love to share it with you ❤️❤️

Who else loves Brussels sprouts?

This girl does!

And so does her liver 😁

PMS is often caused by hormonal imbalances and the most common is too much estrogen. There are a few ways to reduce estrogen in the body and one is to improve your body's detox pathways.

Is your body detoxing estrogen properly?

Irritable? Rage flashes? Snarky comments?

What about sad, weeping and low mood?

These PMS symptoms can all be related to your estrogen levels in comparison to progesterone.

Knowing your hormonal type is super important for banishing your PMS once and for all!

How does PMS affect you?

Shoot me a message! Let's chat about what you can do to get your wild emotions back on track.

Sometimes we don't realize that the periods we're experiencing aren't normal.

I'm saying that heavy and painful periods aren't the norm.

They may be common but it's an underlying sign that your body needs some more support.

YOU are perfectly fine and beautiful and normal, but your periods may not be.

Do any of the statement in the image sound familiar?

How many of these do you have?

Put the number in the comments!

Treating your periods and PMs doesn't just involve throwing expensive supplements at you. It's about getting to the reason why you have these difficult cycles in the first place.

My treatment approach involves treating the whole body instead of focusing on the bodypart that's "broken".

You aren't a broken part that needs to be fixed with the birth control pill.
You are a complex being that needs a whole system approach.

Feel free to shoot me a message if this resonated with you, I love chatting with you 🥰

Some of my favourite approaches to help with painful periods.

Magnesium:
Magnesium relaxes the smooth muscles of the myometrium (the muscles of your uterus) and also helps reduce the amount of prostaglandins (inflammatory guys that can cause pain).

Zinc:
Similar to magnesium, zinc also helps reduce the amount of prostaglandins in the system, reducing pain and inflammation.

Turmeric:
Turmeric is everyone's favourite antiinflammatory herb.
It has its effect on painful periods by reducing prostaglandin levels.

Omega 3:
Also known for its antiinflamamatory effects, how do you think Omega 3 act to reduce period pain?
You guess it!
Reduce levels of prostaglandins.

Cramp Bark:
This is one of my fav herbal medicines to give to women experiencing period pain.
One of its functions is to relax the muscles of the uterus and reduce the sensation of pain.

Let's chat more about what your treatment plan might look like to get to the root cause of your period issues.

The Pill's main goal is to prevent pregnancy by stopping ovulation.

It stops ovulation by interfering with the HPG Axis (Hypothalamic - Pituitary - Gonadal) which is the main force behind ovulation.

The consistent synthetic hormones of the Pill mean that the body doesn't make its own natural hormones.

Essentially our brain-ovary communication is shut down.

So taking the Pill to prevent pregnancy is one thing, but taking the Pill to "fix your hormones" just isn't possible.

Nothing gets fixed. It only gets put on pause for "future you" to deal with later.

The big question is why do you have hormone issues in the first place? Why do you have heavy periods? Why do you have painful cramps and raging PMS?

We answer those questions first and then treat the root cause of your concerns.

We don't just put a bandaid on things and hope they go away by the time you want to come off the pill and potentially start a family.

We fix it now. Today.

Let's chat more about what your treatment plan might look like to get to the root cause of your period issues.

I'm always available if you wanna shoot me a message

3 Things I wish someone told me about The Pill

1. It doesn't actually balance hormones
2. Your monthly 'period' isn't real
3. The Pill can influence your choice of partner

Comment 🤯 if you're just as shocked about one of these as I was!
