When you’re measuring physiology, workload matters.
For cycle VO₂ testing, the bike isn’t simply something to pedal. We need to know the workload being produced as the test progresses so we can interpret the physiological response alongside it.
We use Velotron cycle ergometers for our bike-based VO₂ and lactate assessments. Their accuracy has been evaluated in peer-reviewed research, and they are paired with our ParvoMedics TrueOne metabolic cart—a system used in high-performance and research settings, including Olympic Training Centers and NASA.
But, as with any piece of testing equipment, the hardware is only part of the picture. Calibration, protocol selection, testing setup, and the training and experience of the exercise physiologist conducting the assessment all matter.
The aim is to achieve a true maximal effort within a carefully controlled protocol, producing physiological data that are robust, interpretable, and genuinely useful.
