🌟 Celebrating Rehabilitation Week! 🌟

As an Occupational Therapist in acute rehabilitation at William Osler Health System, I’m grateful for the opportunity to support patients as they work toward regaining function, independence, safety, and participation in meaningful daily occupations.

Rehabilitation is a collaborative effort. I’m proud to co-create goals with patients and families while working alongside our interprofessional team to develop strategies that support successful transitions back to the community.

This week, we celebrated the resilience of our patients and the dedication of rehabilitation professionals who help people move forward, one meaningful step at a time. I’m proud to be part of the amazing team at Brampton Civic Hospital. 💙

We are thrilled to celebrate a truly remarkable day, proudly recognizing our son Ben’s impressive accomplishments. We are grateful for The Lord’s blessings and applaud Ben’s outstanding achievements, including graduating high school as an Ontario Scholar with certificates of excellence in Healthy Active Living Education and Advanced Learning Strategies. He notably received the Louise Arbour Innovation Award for his innovative technological approach. We commend his diligence and commitment to excellence as he embarks on his Electrical Engineering journey at Humber. Keep soaring Ben, we love you 🎉🎉😘😘😘

Amazing learning opportunity!!

I will be joining my friend Santucci, Occupational Therapist for the Sensory Journey Summit - a FREE, thoughtfully curated, high-impact virtual event that brings together 12–15 leaders who champion neurodiversity-affirming care and connection-based approaches. Personally, I’m a HUGE fan of so many of the speakers so I can’t wait to learn!!!! The summit, hosted by Greg on the ClimbRx platform, explores innovative ways to support children through safety, connection, and co-regulation. My topic is all about Interoception & Co-Regulation.

Shoelaces— using the COOP strategy over our last few sessions to practice and come up with a plan on How to tie laces… So proud of my grade 4 kiddo A who practiced different ways before he found the right plan that worked for him.

I currently have a client who is 11 years old who is Autistic and only eats his food in a bowl with all the food groups cooked in a stew. This is what has worked for him and his family till date. His mom is worried about what will happen as he gets older and one of the areas that we are working
on is if this is also my clients goal. We began with an assessment of his sensory preferences and differences and he is keen on knowing the why he doesn’t likecertain foods and textures. Most importantly he feels safe to experiment and his preferences and choices are validated,
so that he is in control of his choices for foods and the mealtimes experience.

Motor challenges are so often missed in Autistic children and it’s so important that motor skills are assessed so that the child can participate in activities in school and play.

This recent paper discussed motor problems in individuals. The authors recommend that regardless of the cause of motor difficulties, it is important to recognise and increase awareness of motor problems in autism and that a clear assessment and intervention pathway is required.
