Many people confuse being supportive with taking responsibility for someone else's life.
Support says:
"I believe in you."
"I'm here if you need me."
"I know you can handle this."
Caretaking says:
⚠️ "Let me fix it for you."
⚠️ "I'll carry this so you don't have to."
⚠️ "Your emotions are my responsibility."
The difference may seem small, but it matters.
Support empowers people to grow.
Caretaking often keeps people dependent.
Sometimes what looks like love is actually fear: Fear of disappointing someone. Fear of conflict. Fear of watching someone struggle.
Healthy relationships allow room for both support and personal responsibility.
You can care deeply about someone without carrying what belongs to them.

A therapist's reminder this morning:
Not everything needs to be figured out today.
Not every decision needs an answer. Not every feeling needs fixing. Not every problem needs solving before breakfast.
Sometimes growth looks less like pushing harder...
and more like slowing down long enough to hear what you actually need.
Before you rush into your day, ask yourself:
"What would make today feel a little gentler?"
Maybe it's taking a break. Maybe it's asking for help. Maybe it's lowering the expectations you've been carrying.
You don't have to earn rest. You don't have to earn support. You don't have to earn your worth.
Take a breath.
One day at a time is enough.

It’s: “I shouldn’t have to ask.”
Because underneath it is often: “If you really loved me, you would just know.”
But healthy relationships aren’t mind reading competitions.
They’re built on clear communication, repair, and vulnerability.
Needing to ask doesn’t make your needs “too much.”
It makes you human.
The couples who last aren’t the ones who magically know everything about each other.
They’re the ones willing to say: “Can I tell you what I need right now?”
