GET 👏 GOOD 👏 SALT 🧂
“But Dr. Mike, salt is bad for you 😩”
“Salt raises your blood pressure 😩”
“I thought I was supposed to cut out salt 😩”
“Isn’t sodium terrible for you? 😩”
WRONG ❌
The conversation around salt needs a little more nuance.
Sodium is actually an essential mineral. Your body needs it for fluid balance, nerve signalling and normal muscle contraction. 🧠💪
The problem? Too much sodium, especially when your diet is packed with highly processed foods, can absolutely contribute to higher blood pressure and cardiovascular risk. Switching salts does NOT magically make excessive sodium intake harmless.
But when we’re choosing salt in our kitchen, QUALITY MATTERS 👏
Take Maldon Sea Salt 🧂
🌊 Made from seawater
🇬🇧 Hand-harvested in Maldon, England
🧂 100% sea salt flakes with no additional ingredients listed
🔺 Naturally forms those iconic pyramid-shaped crystals
🔥 Produced using traditional salt-making methods dating back to 1882
And yes, sea salt can naturally retain trace amounts of minerals such as magnesium, potassium, calcium and iron. But TRACE is the important word. You’re not using sea salt as your magnesium supplement. 😉
So no, the message isn’t:
“Eat unlimited salt because sea salt is healthy.”
It’s:
GET 👏 GOOD 👏 SALT.
Choose simple ingredients. Season intentionally. Stop getting most of your sodium from ultra-processed food.
Your salt should make your food taste better, not need a chemistry lesson to read the ingredient list. 🧂👏
