Tori Gardner ❤️ she even lets me sleep sometimes😉😉🤣🤣
If you ever see one horse standing completely still like a statue while another horse sleeps flat out on the ground beside them, don't interrupt them. You are witnessing "Sentinel Duty." 🐴🛡️
While horses can doze lightly standing up by locking their legs, they can only enter true, restorative REM sleep when lying completely flat on their side. For a prey animal in the wild, lying flat is the most dangerous position possible—getting a 1,200-pound body back onto all four hooves to outrun a predator takes precious seconds.
Because of this deep survival instinct, a horse will actually suffer from sleep deprivation rather than lie down if they feel unsafe. They will only enter deep sleep when a trusted herd mate agrees to stand guard over them, scanning the horizon with their ears and eyes locked on the perimeter.
It is the ultimate unspoken promise in the animal kingdom: "You close your eyes. I have your back."
