✨ NEW ONLINE COURSE: ADH(D) in Mid-Life — ADHD Strategies for Women ✨

ADH(D) can look and feel very different for women — and the strategies that may have worked earlier in life don’t always work as our responsibilities, environments, and hormones change.

This self-paced, neurodiversity-affirming online course was created specifically with neurodivergent women in mind. 💛

Together, we’ll explore:

🧠 How the ADH(D) brain works
✨ Practical ADHD strategies designed with women in mind
🌿 How hormones can impact executive functioning, energy, focus, and capacity
💼 Strategies for navigating ADHD both in and outside of the workplace
💡 How to build supports that work with your brain rather than constantly trying to force yourself to function differently

The goal isn’t to become “better” at pushing through.

It’s to better understand your brain, recognize what impacts your capacity, and develop realistic strategies that actually fit the way you function.

💻 100% online & self-paced

💛 YOU ASKED… SO WE’RE OPENING A SECOND COHORT OF HELD! 💛

Our first HELD group filled — and we heard from more moms who wanted a space like this. So we’re doing it again!

✨ HELD: A Group for Mothers of Neurodivergent Youth
📅 Second cohort begins September 28th

HELD was created for the moms who spend so much time holding everything together.

The appointments. The school emails. The advocacy. The emotional regulation. The mental load. The worry. The parenting decisions. And sometimes, managing your own neurodivergent brain and nervous system at the same time.

This is a space where you get to be held, too. 💛

Together, we’ll explore topics like:

✨ Burnout, overwhelm & realistic self-care
✨ Nervous system and emotional regulation
✨ Parenting without guilt & reducing self-criticism
✨ Supporting your child’s regulation
✨ Boundaries & the invisible mental load
✨ School advocacy & parenting strategies
✨ Relationships, connection & building your village

But HELD is about more than learning strategies. It’s about sitting in a room with other mothers who understand parts of your experience without you having to explain everything.

Connection. Support. Learning. Laughter. And hopefully a few new friendships along the way.

HELD is facilitated by Mary Klovance, RCC, Registered Clinical Counsellor, educator, ADHD specialist, founder of The Neurodiversity Family Centre, and mom of a neurodivergent child with support from our practicum student Lauren Wright.

💛 Our second cohort begins September 28th.

If you’ve been looking for support that focuses not only on your child, but on YOU as the person doing the parenting, we’d love to have you join us.

📚 Does your child’s IEP actually reflect who they are — or does it mostly focus on what they struggle with?

For neurodivergent students, an IEP should be about more than deficits, compliance, and “fixing” behaviours. It should recognize strengths, sensory and regulation needs, barriers to learning, self-advocacy, and the supports a student needs to genuinely access school.

Our newest blog, IEP for Neurodivergent Students in BC: A Parent’s Guide, breaks down how parents can approach the IEP process from a neurodiversity-affirming, strengths-based perspective.

✨ Inside, we cover:
• What a Competency-Based IEP looks like in BC
• Accommodations that create meaningful access to learning
• Why behaviour should be viewed as communication
• How to create affirming, meaningful IEP goals
• A simple Barrier → Need → Support → Outcome framework you can bring into your next school meeting

If you’re heading into an IEP meeting this school year — or wondering whether your child’s current plan is truly meeting their needs — save this post and read the full guide.

✨ Looking for a counsellor who is warm, accepting, practical and genuinely interested in understanding YOU? Meet Tavis.

Finding the right counsellor can make all the difference — especially when you’re navigating a brain, relationship or life that doesn’t always fit neatly into the boxes you’ve been given.

Tavis du Preez, BA, MA brings a warm, collaborative approach to counselling, creating space for clients to explore what’s happening beneath the surface while also finding practical ways forward.

Tavis may be a great fit for teens, adults, couples and families looking for support with:

🧠 ADHD & Autism
❤️ Relationships & communication
🌱 Life transitions & personal growth
😟 Anxiety, stress & overwhelm
💭 Self-esteem & identity
👨 Men’s mental health
👨‍👩‍👧 Parenting & family challenges
🫶 Feeling stuck, disconnected or unsure of what comes next

With 30 years of experience supporting and teaching children and adults, Tavis brings both extensive life experience and counselling training to his work. His therapeutic approach draws from modalities including Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), CBT and EMDR.

Most importantly, Tavis approaches counselling with curiosity and acceptance — helping clients better understand their patterns, experiences and relationships without judgement.

Because therapy isn’t about becoming a different version of yourself.

Sometimes it’s about finally having a space where you can unmask, understand yourself more deeply, and figure out what moving forward looks like for you. 💜

👉 Curious whether Tavis might be the right fit for you or someone in your family?

🚨 One of the biggest mistakes we make when our child comes to us upset?

We try to fix it.

We give advice.
We offer solutions.
We explain what they could do differently.
We try to make the uncomfortable feeling go away.

And it usually comes from a really loving place. ❤️

But sometimes, before our kids need us to solve the problem, they need us to sit in the muck with them.

That means staying with them in the uncomfortable feelings long enough for them to feel heard, understood, accepted and supported.

Instead of jumping to:

❌ “Here’s what you should do…”
❌ “Don’t worry about it.”
❌ “It’s not that big of a deal.”
❌ “Why didn’t you just…?”

Try getting curious:

💬 “And then what happened?”
💬 “How did that make you feel?”
💬 “What did they say?”
💬 “What did you do next?”

Then validate the feeling and experience:

❤️ “I can understand why you would feel that way.”
❤️ “Wow, that sounds really difficult.”
❤️ “I can tell this is a really big deal for you.”

Remember: validation does not mean agreement.

You don’t have to agree with your child’s interpretation of what happened to acknowledge that their feelings and experience are real.

When kids feel heard and understood, then we can help them decide whether they want support, advice or help problem-solving.

Sometimes connection has to come before solutions. 🫶

👇 I want to know what would help YOU most.

Would you like me to make my next post about:

A) Exactly what to SAY when your child is upset
B) What NOT to say (and what to say instead)
C) How to validate when you don’t agree with your child
D) How to move from validation → problem-solving

Comment A, B, C or D below — or tell me the parenting situation you find hardest to navigate. I may turn your question into my next post!

💾 SAVE this for the next time your child comes to you upset.
📤 SHARE it with a parent who needs the reminder: you don’t always have to fix it.

Are you confident that the way you support neurodivergent clients is actually neurodiversity-affirming? 🧠✨

Many social workers, counsellors, therapists, educators and community service providers want to better support neurodivergent individuals—but traditional approaches don’t always reflect what we now understand about the neurodivergent experience.

Neurodiversity-Affirming & Strengths-Based Practice for Community Service Providers is a practical, 1.5-hour online workshop designed to help you move beyond simply understanding neurodiversity and begin applying affirming practices in your everyday work.

You’ll explore:

✨ The neurodivergent experience through an affirming, strengths-based lens
✨ Practical strategies for supporting neurodivergent clients and families
✨ Regulation, sensory needs and accommodations
✨ Communication and service adaptations
✨ Supporting self-advocacy while reducing pressure to mask
✨ Skills you can teach clients to help them navigate a predominantly neurotypical world

The workshop is self-paced, so you can complete it on your own schedule, and you’ll receive a Certificate of Completion when you’re finished.

Perfect for helping professionals who want to strengthen their practice, better understand their neurodivergent clients, and provide support that respects each person’s brain, needs and identity.

We are absolutely thrilled to share that HELD: A Group for Mothers of Neurodivergent Children is officially FULL after just two weeks of advertising! 💛

The response to this group has been overwhelming in the best possible way, and it has reinforced something we’ve always believed: mothers of neurodivergent children are craving connection, understanding, and spaces where they don’t have to explain themselves.

There is such a need for communities where you can show up exactly as you are, share the realities of parenting neurodivergent children, and feel genuinely seen, supported, and understood.

Because of the incredible interest, we are now exploring the possibility of:
✨ A second Fall cohort offered online only, and/or
✨ Our next hybrid cohort beginning in January.

If you were hoping to join us this time around, we’d love to keep you in the loop! Visit our group page to learn more and join the waitlist, sign up for our newsletter, and follow us for updates on future groups and offerings.

We can’t wait to continue building more spaces like this for our community. 💛
