When you’re overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally flooded, or feeling disconnected from yourself, your nervous system may be trying to protect you.
Instead of forcing yourself to “think differently,” start by working with your body.
Try:
✨ Feeling your feet pressed firmly into the floor
✨ Gently rocking side to side while seated
✨ Humming, singing, or making long “voo” sounds
✨ Stretching your arms overhead and taking up space
✨ Placing one hand on your chest and one on your stomach
✨ Shaking out tension in your hands, arms, and legs
✨ Leaning against a wall and noticing the support beneath you
✨ Wrapping yourself in a blanket and focusing on the sensation of being held
✨ Slowly turning your head and allowing your eyes to scan the room
✨ Taking a walk and intentionally noticing colors, sounds, and textures around you
✨ Self-massage on your hands, shoulders, or jaw
✨ Swaying to music that feels calming or grounding
Nervous system regulation isn’t about eliminating emotions.
It’s about helping your body feel safe enough to move through them.
Save this for the days when coping feels harder than usual. 🤍
