π€ΏποΈ Jeju Island - South Korea ποΈ
Jeju Island is located just off the southern tip of South Korea.
Jeju Island is Korea's most popular tourist destination and the largest island located at the southernmost part of South Korea.
It is located in the Korea Strait between South Korea and Japan.
This island is also an internationally renowned vacation spot and a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site.
β We visited for a few days last season, while touring South Korea. It's less than an hour flight from the city of Busan.
Busan and Jeju Island are very popular vacation destinations in South Korea, for locals and tourists alike.
ποΈ Jeju is picturesque volcanic island, with beautiful beaches, waterfalls, hiking trails and UNESCO historical sites.
With a population of well over 600,000, the island relies heavily on tourism.
π€Ώ It is also very well known for its renowned Haenyeo. These are women who free-dive for seafood, with a tradition that goes back decades. There's a beautiful museum on the island dedicated to these brave women.
πΏ As well, scattered all over the island, are ancient volcanic rock statues. These statues are known as Dol Hareubang, which means ... βstone grandfathers.β
Most were carved during the Joseon period. They were traditionally placed at village entrances or gates as guardians against evil spirits.
π There's fresh seafood galore, as well as Hallabong tangerines, which are amazing! πThere's also fresh juice stands selling this delicious tangerine juice.
We enjoyed 2 full day guided tours of the island during our short visit.
