📢 Today we published an Open Letter to the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors 📢
Recently, the BCACC disclosed member information to Pacific Blue Cross (including, in some cases, clinicians' home addresses) without first obtaining consent from its 10,000+ members.
To our knowledge, NO client information was involved, and the disclosure was limited to Registered Clinical Counsellors' information.
Regardless...
👏 Consent. 👏 Matters. 👏
The BCACC communicated this directly to its members rather than through a public statement, and have yet to respond privately to questions about their repeated overreach and steps beyond their mandate. So, we're giving them the opportunity to respond publicly to our questions instead.
While prompted by this most recent incident, the Open Letter raises broader questions about:
🏛️ Governance
🔍 Transparency & Accountability
🤝 Member Autonomy
📋 Organizational Priorities
Professional associations play an important role. With that role comes responsibility, restraint, and transparency.
We hope this contributes to a respectful conversation about the future of our profession.
