🍂 Fall is coming… is your immune system ready?
As temperatures drop and we spend more time indoors, respiratory infections tend to become more common. So instead of panic-buying every “immune-boosting” supplement on the shelf, let’s talk about what actually supports immune function. 👇
🛌 Sleep > another supplement
Your immune system is busy while you sleep. Sleep helps regulate immune signalling and inflammatory responses, and even short-term sleep disruption can affect immune function. Aim for a consistent sleep schedule and enough sleep for you.
🥦 Feed your immune system
Your immune system needs energy, protein, vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients to do its job. Think variety: protein, fibre, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats. There’s no single superfood doing all the heavy lifting.
☀️ Vitamin D deserves a conversation
Vitamin D plays a role in immune regulation, but more ≠ better. If you’re concerned about deficiency, testing and individualized supplementation can be important!
🏃 Move your body
Regular physical activity is associated with healthier immune function. You don’t need to train like an Olympian — consistent, moderate movement absolutely counts.
🧠 Stress matters, too
Your nervous and immune systems are constantly communicating. Chronic psychological stress can influence inflammatory and immune responses, making stress management part of the immune-health conversation.
💉 The boring stuff works
Hand hygiene, staying home when you’re sick, and good ventilation can all help reduce the spread and impact of respiratory infections.
✨ And one important myth-buster:
You don't actually want to “boost” your immune system indiscriminately. A healthy immune system is a regulated immune system — responding appropriately when it needs to and standing down when it doesn’t.
And if you’re constantly getting sick, taking a long time to recover, or wondering whether there’s something worth looking into, our team at Juniper Family Health can help you figure out where to start.
