As ophthalmologists, we often encounter patients when symptoms could have been addressed earlier. Sudden changes like flashes, floaters, or a shadow in your vision can indicate a retinal issue needing prompt attention. Gradual vision changes, such as loss or halos, may suggest glaucoma or cataracts, manageable if detected early.

Monitor any changes in your vision and seek guidance to maintain vibrant clarity.

Dilating drops gently open your pupil, allowing your doctor to see the back of your eye more clearly, including the retina, optic nerve, and blood vessels. This process helps us detect conditions like glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, and macular degeneration early, often before you notice any symptoms.

Though simple, this step is crucial for early detection. Your vision might be blurry and sensitive to light for a few hours afterward, so we suggest bringing sunglasses and arranging for someone to drive you to your appointment.

Glaucoma is often referred to as the 'silent' eye condition because it typically presents no pain or noticeable vision changes in its early stages. If untreated, it may result in serious vision complications, but with early detection, it is manageable.

Some people may experience sudden eye symptoms such as eye pain, redness, blurred vision, halos around lights, severe headache, or vomiting. If these symptoms occur, seek immediate medical care as this requires urgent attention.

Regular eye exams are essential for early detection, even before symptoms arise.
