Mixing formula and human milk in the same bottle is not recommended, and here’s why:
🧪 Different storage rules:
Formula must be discarded right after a feed, but human milk can be safely stored for 1–2 hours. Mixing the two could lead to wasting your milk if the bottle isn’t finished.
🛡️ Loss of protective properties:
Mixing formula with human milk can reduce lysozyme activity, an enzyme that helps protect against harmful bacteria like E. coli.
⚖️ Nutrient interference:
Added components in formula, like iron, may bind to the nutrients in your milk, reducing their absorbability.
💡 Best practice?
Offer human milk and formula separately to preserve the unique benefits of your milk.

Wanting to increase breast milk supply, feeding your baby more frequently may help, deterining the cause for a drop in supply or try power pumping!

Have you tried power pumping? 🍼

There are many reasons why your pumping output may have deceased, most of which are temporary. Generally, if your supply decreases for a day or two and then goes back to normal, there is nothing you need to do.

However, if your supply dip seems to be sustained over a few days, you might consider power pumping to increase your supply.

Here are some situations that might cause a supply drop and when power pumping may be helpful:

🍼 If you have been pumping since your baby was born, you will likely see a drop in your pumping output after the first month or two as your supply regulates itself.

🍼 Extreme stress can play a role in decreasing your supply.

🍼 Illnesses like stomach viruses and flu may cause your supply to drop.

🍼 Anytime you decrease your nursing or pumping time, you will likely see a drop in supply. This might happen when your baby starts sleeping longer at night or if you aren’t getting enough time to pump at work.
