Treating frozen shoulder with electro-acupuncture ⚡️

Adhesive capsulitis, is also known as frozen shoulder, an insidious painful condition of the shoulder persisting more than 3 months.

This inflammatory condition causes fibrosis and inflammation of the GHJ capsule and surrounding structures of joint - causing pain and loss of ROM.

In a recent study by Hollman et al. 2018, passive shoulder range of motion was tested in 5 patients with frozen shoulder passive shoulder after the administration of general anesthesia. All 5 of these patients improved by 55-110 degrees with passive abduction, while 3 patients also increased ROM with passive external rotation by 15-40 degrees.

This information tells us that while the inflammation and adhesions still play a role in the condition, we have to understand that muscles guarding and pain could be the more likely contributors to movement restrictions in the frozen shoulder.

This could be key in the rehab process - noting that the aggressive stretching or “breaking through adhesion” my not be necessary in achieving a resolution

A jab well done 🩻

Acupuncture stimulates the central nervous system, release chemicals into the muscles, spinal cord and brain.

These biochemical changes stimulate the body’s natural healing abilities and promote physical and emotional well-being.

Interestingly, a lot of the organ channels correlate to the pathways of the body's nervous system.

Acupuncture can help put the pep in your back in your step. Take it from coach Jamal Miller 😆
