Have you considered using newspapers in your family history research? Newspapers often contain birth, marriage, graduation and death announcements - and more. Social articles of the past often described church events, volunteer projects and retirement parties, to name a few. Think of old newspapers as being another form of social media! You may also find photos of your ancestors in an old newspaper. But how do you access old newspapers? Join us at the Ayr Public Library on Wednesday, April 17th (3-5pm), for an informal workshop and we will show you how! This event is hosted by the Wellington Branch of Ontario Ancestors in partnership with the Region of Waterloo Library. This event is free but registration is required. We hope to see you then!

I would like to announce that I will be presenting a three series workshop on behalf of the Wellington Branch of Ontario Ancestors (Ontario Genealogical Society) and in collaboration with the Region of Waterloo Library (Ayr Branch). This is a basic level workshop focused on helping those just getting into family history research. You will learn how to begin gathering information, stories and basic records to fill out your family tree. This session will be fun and informative!

This first of these events takes place Wednesday Sept 27, 2023, between 3-5pm at the Ayr Public Library which is located at 137 Stanley Street in Ayr.

I belong to a wonderful business networking group (BNI business leaders) here in kitchener-waterloo. I’ve been a member for over five years. We meet on a weekly basis and discuss how to grow each other’s business. This week Greg Cowan gave an informative presentation. Thank you Greg for making tax information interesting and pertinent to us business owners. We are lucky to have you in our group.

In his inaugural presentation, Greg Cowan, our resident chartered accountant, helped us understand some of the tax implications of sole proprietorships vs incorporated businesses. Greg is looking for more clients who are just starting out, so he can get them on the correct path early in order to minimize their tax burden.
