It's the end of school. Your child says, "I'm bored" during homework affter two questions.

If you've seen this, you know what comes next.... the doodling, the snack requests, the sliding off the chair.

It's not attitude. For a lot of neurodivergent kids, engagement is genuinely tied to how meaningful, active, or interest-connected an activity is. When the conditions aren't there, the activity can't compete.

🌈 Autism Play & Connect is OPEN for registration!

This summer, we're running a small, intentional play group for neurodiverse toddlers and their caregivers right here in Burlington.

6 weeks of sensory play, story time, caregiver connection, and ABA + SLP tips you can actually use at home.

Every session is led by our behaviour analyst, with SLP support throughout the series. It's not just play for the sake of play, every activity is designed with your child's communication, social, and play skills in mind, in a space where every child gets to show up exactly as they are.

POV: your toddler says "wa wa" and now you say it too 👀

It's natural, it's cute, and to be clear, repeating back what your child says is a great thing. That back and forth is exactly what helps language grow.

But the goal is to model and expand, not just match. So "wa wa" becomes "Waaater? You want your waaater?"

Research backs this up: parentese increases turn-taking and advances language learning, and babies actually prefer it over regular speech.

Same connection, just leaving the door open for the next word 💙

Boredom hits different in summer 😅

This was one of those afternoons, beautiful Saturday, and my daughter announced she had "nothing to do." Instead of jumping to fix it, I got curious instead.

Turns out boredom wasn't really the problem. She wanted connection, and once she had that, everything else followed.

As "I'm bored" starts showing up more this summer, remember it's not always something to fix. Sometimes the fastest way through it is just showing up next to them. 💛

May was Better Speech and Hearing Month, and it got us thinking about one of the most common things parents tell us when they first reach out: "Everyone just told me to wait and see."

So we made something!

"My toddler isn't talking yet... now what?" is a free guide for parents who are in that in-between space. The one where something feels off but you're not sure what to do next or you're sitting on a waitlist.

This guide covers what late talking actually means, what to watch for, and some things you can do right now at home.

A few things worth saying out loud:
This guide does not replace a speech-language assessment. It doesn't replace therapy. If you have real concerns about your child's communication, please reach out to an SLP, behaviour analyst, your doctor, or paediatrician. What this guide does is help you feel less lost while you figure out your next step.
