The Village at University Gates A vibrant community offering both Long-Term Care and Retirement Living, home to over 500 residents.

We proudly share our space beside the Research Institution for Ageing. The Village at University Gates is a long term care home located in Waterloo with a unique partnership with the Research Institute for Aging (RIA), The University of Waterloo, and Conestoga College. We believe in resident centred care with a strong emphasis on the residents needs and desires. Our partnership with research and education helps us to provide the most innovative care to our residents.

As we prepare to say goodbye to Ron our village pauses to remember him.

Captured in this picture doing what he did best, deep in conversation, genuinely interested in the person in front of him while taking part in village life.

Ron shared a multitude of lessons with us over the years. He championed elder wisdom, elevated the voices of seniors, encouraged new ideas and innovation and helped change senior living into true communities of belonging, purpose, connection and caring. He reminded us to listen, to keep learning and to never stop imagining how we could do things better.

As we remember Ron and all he meant to our village our thoughts are also with his family and loved ones, those who knew and loved him best.

Ron, we will miss the conversations, the questions, your endless curiosity about others and most of all your presence in our Village community.

Thank you Ron, for all you gave and all you taught us. You will be deeply missed.

As we reflect on this September's Terry Fox Walk, we are proud to share the incredible impact our residents, volunteers, and team members made together. πŸŽ‰

A huge thank you to all of our residents, team members, volunteers, and special guests from CIBC who participated in our Terry Fox Walk.

Together, we completed an incredible 154 laps around the Village, which equals approximately 123,200 steps or 86.24 kilometres. What an amazing achievement and a wonderful display of community spirit, determination, and teamwork.

We would also like to extend a special thank you to the volunteers from CIBC who joined us and supported our residents throughout the walk. Your encouragement and enthusiasm helped make the event a tremendous success.

Thanks to everyone's generosity, we also raised $95 for the Terry Fox Foundation. Every dollar raised helps carry on Terry's legacy and supports important cancer research.

Thank you to everyone who participated, donated, and cheered our walkers on. Together, we made a difference and showed the true spirit of our Village community. β€οΈπŸ‘Ÿ

Mark your calendars. On October 2, we're bringing The Green Bench to the big screen in 𝐓𝐨𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐨, and we want you there.

This isn't just a movie night. It's a chance to sit down, listen, and be part of a story that challenges everything we think we know about growing older. Timed around and , this screening is for anyone who's ever been changed by a conversation with someone older and wiser than them.

Join us at the Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema on Friday, October 2. Doors open at 6pm, the film starts at 7pm, and director Sarah Fodey, SandBay Entertainment joins us afterward for a live Q&A at 8:30pm.

What a fun night we had at our Movie Night Under the Stars last Friday! Residents and members of the Laurelwood community came together to enjoy The Incredibles on the big screen.

Of course, no movie night is complete without some treats! We enjoyed popcorn, cotton candy, Bear Paws, pop, and much more while settling in for the movie.

A BIG thank you to the Laurelwood community for coming out and joining us! It was wonderful to bring our communities together for an evening filled with great company, tasty treats, and lots of fun.

Today, we were pleased to welcome Mayor Dorothy McCabe and Councillor Mary Lou Roe to our home as we celebrated the Ontario Long Term Care Association’s Long-Term Care Community Engagement Day.

This special day is dedicated to strengthening the connection between long-term care homes and the communities around them. It provides an opportunity to bring together residents, families, team members, and community leaders to share stories, build relationships, and experience firsthand the important role long-term care plays in our community.

We extend our sincere thanks to Mayor Dorothy McCabe and Councillor Mary Lou Roe for joining us and helping to celebrate the spirit of community engagement. Their visit reflects the importance of collaboration, connection, and support for the residents and teams who make long-term care such a vital part of our community.
