Today marks a threshold in my world. And cosmically that’s exactly where we are at with this eclipse season.

Today is my last day doing client sessions at Exhale Therapy.

And… it’s the true beginning of Age of Alchemy/Ilona Farry Counselling & Psychotherapy.

I’ve actually been building this practice for the past year, quietly, alongside my work at Exhale, figuring out what I wanted it to look and feel like before I ever said it out loud. This just makes it official, and the Lions Gate Portal on August 8th makes my first day fully in private practice.

Exhale gave me something I didn’t expect when I started: space. Space to see a wide range of clients, space to learn from an amazing supervisor, space to test what kind of therapist I actually am when no one’s watching, space to notice what lit me up in a session and what felt like performing.

That’s not nothing. And a lot of people never get that room to figure it out before they commit to a direction.

What I learned, mostly, is how I want to show up. Not as a version of “therapist” that’s polished and neutral and a little bit generic, but as myself.

Depth-oriented.

Direct.

Willing to go to the places that are messy and ancestral and hard to name.

That’s the practice I’m stepping into now, fully.

So grateful for the time spent at Exhale Therapy, the people it’s brought into my life, and what it has taught me. And genuinely lit up for what’s next 🔥✨🦁

It’s time to translate your vision into something tangible. There is a forward motion and movement towards executing on a project, plan, business idea or vision. There’s a particular kind of tired that isn’t about sleep.

It’s the tired of carrying what the women before you didn’t get to put down. The losses that weren’t allowed to be grieved out loud. The parts of them that were too big, too much, too seen for the time they lived in...so they quieted themselves instead.

I’m stepping into a lot, including turning 50 this year, and I’ve felt that weight differently lately. Not just inherited but earned. Every version of myself I had to shrink to fit a role, a relationship, a room. Every year I spent proving I belonged before I let myself actually take up space.

At the same time, I’m watching my own daughters navigate a world that’s asking something different of them; different pressures, different noise, a different kind of too much. And I’m learning that releasing what was handed down to me isn’t separate from showing up for what they’re carrying now. The two are happening together. I can’t hand them a lighter line if I’m not doing the work myself, and I can’t do the work myself without staying present to what they actually need from me, right now, in real time.

If you’ve been feeling unusually heavy lately, unusually raw, unusually aware of every woman who came before you: You’re not imagining it. The sky right now is asking a lot of us to look backward before we can move forward.

This isn’t a birthday. It’s a threshold. The chapter where you stop asking permission...from the ancestors, from the field, from the version of you that needed to be smaller to be safe.

You don’t have to fix it. You don’t have to carry it either. You just have to let it be witnessed.

Recently a dear friend, also someone who sees me in a way few people do, gifted me a piece of art for this threshold. Earthy, feminine, unmistakably alive with the same medicine we both work in. I can’t look at it without feeling the weight of being known, all the way down. It’s undoubtedly the marker of the woman I’m becoming, both in this life and in the work I do in the world.

And then...

Although it might feel lately like you’ve been through hell and back, there’s been much learned from the experiences and you’re still overcoming the challenges that have come your way. Take pride in the set that you’ve mustered and that you’ve faced your fears. The path may not yet be clear, but each day is a step you take towards the future. Consider how you’ve grown throughout this process and what you bring forward with you.

What outdated patterns, beliefs and ideas are you stepping away from? It may feel like you’ve hit rock bottom in some ways, but know that it’s meant to show you what in your life is no longer working for you. Get quiet and explore why you are feeling this way…this will highlight for you what needs to change and how to begin this new chapter.

Have you been hesitating to speak your truth? Is there fear that has been keeping you quiet? Maybe you’re worried you’ll make a mistake, or be judged by others. Lean in to what it is you need to say that will honour you and who you truly are. Your silence has gone on too long, and the time of walking on eggshells is over. If anyone reacts, you can push it back to them, with strength and with love, and let them know that’s a them problem and not yours.
