Therapy Tip of the Week: Micro‑Rest Moments

Short pauses are more powerful than they look. A 60–90 second break gives the brain time to reset, especially during activities that require focus, coordination, or patience.

Try adding tiny “reset moments” between tasks at home or school - a stretch, a deep breath, or even looking away from the activity for a few seconds. These quick rests can help children return feeling calmer, more regulated, and ready to participate.

To kick off National AccessAbility Week (May 31 – June 6), we want to celebrate progress, advocate for change, and amplify voices for a more accessible and inclusive community.

We are spotlighting one of our favourite resources - accessible playgrounds!

We believe every child deserves the opportunity to play and explore in an inclusive environment. That is why we are excited to share accessible playgrounds right in our local community.

There are several local playgrounds offering fun and accessible play for children of all abilities:

KidsAbility's Accessible Playground at 500 Hallmark Drive, Waterloo
Churchill Park, Cambridge
Eby Farm Playground, Waterloo Park
Country Hills Playground, Kitchener
Kate's Place For Everyone Playground at Gibson Park, Elmira

Let us build bridges, break barriers, and ensure equal access for all.

Visit https://accessibleplaygroundsontario.ca/ for other playground options.

Co-doing means working on a task side by side with your child - not taking over - and not stepping back entirely. You guide, encourage, and participate together. This approach builds independence and confidence while keeping your child supported throughout the process.

Thank You, Tim Hortons & Community! 🍪

A heartfelt thank you to our local Tim Hortons owners, staff, and our dedicated volunteers who made this year’s Smile Cookie campaign such an incredible success.

Thanks to the generosity of everyone who supported the initiative by purchasing a $2 Smile Cookie, an amazing $383,502.80 was raised in just one week! Wow!🎉

These funds will go directly toward supporting three local charities, KidsAbility Centre for Child Development, Cambridge Food Bank and Nutrition for Learning helping make a meaningful difference for kids and families across our communities.

We are so grateful for the kindness, community spirit, and teamwork. Every cookie truly made a difference, and the community made it possible!

What an epic night at Slamdemonium! 💥🤼

We’re so thankful to this amazing group for choosing to support KidsAbility for a second year in a row. This high-energy, family-friendly event brought the community together in the best way - and made a real impact for the kids and families we serve.

Thank you to Off The Ropes Studio – special mention to Jeff and Vanessa – all the wrestlers, volunteers and everyone involved in making it possible. We’re so grateful to be part of it! 💙

Special thanks to City of Kitchener and the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium for supporting this incredible event and helping make it what it was – awesome!
