World Physiotherapy Day – September 8, 2026.

On World Physiotherapy Day, we're proud to recognize the role of physiotherapy in supporting members of our communities to recover from injury, and regain and maintain independence. At the LDHC, physiotherapy services are provided by Bill Ball, Physiotherapist.

This year’s World Physiotherapy Day theme is the role of physiotherapy and physical activity in the prevention, management, and rehabilitation of cardiovascular disease and stroke. Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death globally. At the LDHC, we support the Wawa Family Health Team to provide Cardiac Stress Testing and Cardiac Rehab in the physiotherapy department, which helps to identify at-risk individuals and supports those with cardiovascular disease in resuming a safe exercise plan.

It is with deep sadness that we recognize the passing of one of our staff members, Debbie Case. Debbie was a valued member of our Dietary Department for almost 30 years, beginning her career at the hospital in 1997. Debbie was known for her work ethic and her specialty recipes like cauliflower pizza and bacon bread. Over her time at the LDHC, Debbie’s work supported the nutrition needs of LTC residents, patients, staff, and visitors. Her loss is deeply felt at the LDHC, and we extend our sincere condolences to all her loved ones.

Join us this afternoon, 1-4pm at the LDHC for a walk through our history!

The Lady Dunn Health Centre is excited to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the opening of the Lady Dunn Hospital this summer! Everyone is warmly invited to join the festivities on July 27th, 2026.

The original hospital on the LDHC site, the Lady Dunn Hospital, opened its doors on July 27th, 1951. This facility was funded through the efforts of the Wawa community, in collaboration with Algoma Steel, to address the needs of the expanding mining community. Over the years, the hospital evolved, incorporating as a public entity in 1965, undergoing expansion in 1970 with the support of community fundraising, and ultimately opening a brand-new facility in 2002: the present-day Lady Dunn Health Centre.

This year, we are excited to take a moment to reflect on our rich history of serving Wawa and its surrounding communities, while also looking ahead to ensure we meet the health needs of our population in a changing landscape.

The celebration will be held on Monday, July 27th, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. We invite everyone to join us at the LDHC for an afternoon of refreshments, music, and a journey through our history. Historic photographs and items from our archives will be showcased throughout the main floor of the hospital.

LDHC Implements Code Grey: External Air Exclusion

The Lady Dunn Health Centre has issued a Code Grey due to poor air quality and ash fall in Wawa. This Code Grey applies to the Lady Dunn Health Centre; the Dubreuilville Nursing Station operations continue as normal at this time.

To ensure the safety of patients, staff, and visitors while continuing to provide essential services, we will implement the following precautions:

Air Quality Measures:
Air handlers throughout the facility will be adjusted to maintain air quality.

Clinical Services:
All clinical services, including the Wawa Family Health Team, will remain operational. Outpatient visits will proceed as scheduled. Patients are encouraged to assess their attendance based on their individual health needs and current public health recommendations.

Visitor Instructions:
To help maintain indoor air quality, we request that public limit their visits. Minimizing door openings will help stabilize indoor air conditions and ensure the safety of everyone in the hospital.
Please visit Algoma Public Health for information on protecting your health during periods of poor air quality.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we strive to maintain a safe environment.
