The questions your therapist asks can shape the direction of your healing. Different therapeutic approaches ask different kinds of questions, and each serves a different purpose.
For example, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) often focuses on identifying thoughts and beliefs that influence your emotions and behaviours. Internal Family Systems (IFS), on the other hand, invites you to get curious about the different parts of yourself that carry those beliefs and the roles they’ve taken on to protect you.
Neither approach is “better” than the other, they simply work differently. In my practice, I tend to gravitate toward IFS because I love helping people heal through their nervous system. If this approach resonates with you, my educational therapy groups begin this September. They’re intentionally kept small to create a safe and supportive environment.
