Our mind and our body work in very similar ways. If we want to change either of them it requires consistent action.

And each time you follow through with that new action you are creating new patterns not just behaviourally but also physiologically.

Each time we choose something new or push ourselves a little out of our comfort zone we strengthen the neuropathway associated with that thought, action and feeling.

The best part is is that one day you wake up and realize that thing that used to be hard is now your new norm ❤️

Women have been sold a lie about what self-care is.

The truth is that spa day feels really nice in the moment but it’s just a temporary bandaid over how exhausted your nervous system is.

Real self care are those daily habits that grow your capacity for life’s demands, NOT as an escape from them.

It has been a heavy two weeks in the Okanagan valley as multiple wildfires have been burning out of control, people have lost their homes, communities are grieving and smoke hangs in the air making it unhealthy to be outside in this natures paradise.

Our nervous systems are physiologically designed to respond to our environment for cues of threats and signs of safety. They are also designed to feel other people’s nervous systems states because we are wired for connection.
During times like this emotions can feel overwhelming because we aren’t just feeling our own emotions. We are also empathetically feeling the suffering, grief, fear and anxiety of others in our community.

Glimmers are micro joys and they truly do help us survive through macro grief. They shift our nervous system out of fight and flight, they remind us that good still exists, they allow us to feel joy, love and comfort.

The slides used here have been a few of my glimmers this week. A cup of tea and my cozy quilt, coffee and calming music, my dog whom always brings so much love and laughter into my days, delicious mangoes and colourful flowers in an otherwise grey world.
