There's a connection between our teeth and the rest of the body!

One conversation with a patient during a recent appointment really got me thinking.

They had stopped using fluoride toothpaste and switched to a non-fluoride alternative that has recently been flagged for possible misrepresentation.

When I explained that there is currently very limited independent research supporting some of the product’s claims, they were visibly upset. They believed that if a toothpaste is sold on the market, its safety and effectiveness must already be fully proven and regulated.

That conversation stayed with me.
Many “natural” toothpastes now contain hydroxyapatite (HAP), an ingredient promoted as an alternative to fluoride. However, some forms of natural HAP may contain trace contaminants such as lead depending on sourcing and manufacturing.

I’ve decided to start an independent project to test these products and better understand what’s actually in them. My goal is to help provide clearer information for patients and consumers so people can make informed decisions about their oral health.
