Suzanne St. John Smith, MA MA - Psych. FEA I’m psychotherapist in private practice in West Vancouver, and I work with individuals, couples, and families. I’m currently accepting new clients.

Located in West Vancouver, I’m an experienced and certified counselor and psychotherapist (certified and regulated by the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association) in private practice providing services to individuals, couples, and families in West Vancouver, North Vancouver, Burnaby, and Metro Vancouver. Finding the right therapist is the single most important factor in determining the

degree to which you ultimately feel your therapy experience was a successful one. Consequently, it’s my hope that my website will offer you enough information about myself, my approach, and my practice for you to make an informed decision about whether I’ll be that ‘right’ therapist for you. I treat clients who seek help in the following areas:

• Relationship Counselling
• Depression
• Stress & Anxiety
• Grief & Bereavement Counselling
• Separation & Divorce
• Mid-Life Issues
* Women's Issues

And Fr. Greg Boyle continues: “Then, we are no longer saddled by the burden of our persistent judgments, our ceaseless withholding, our constant exclu-sion. Our sphere has widened, and we find ourselves, quite unexpectedly, in a new, expansive location, in a place of endless acceptance and infinite love.” Excerpt from “Tattoos on the Heart”.

• I’m not a religious person, and nor is the above-mentioned book. But I’m drawn to anyone who believes deeply in the notion of total “inclusivity”, which is true of Fr. Greg. Nobody is left out. Nobody lives on the margins in his perfect world. Yet, unfortunately, that’s not how it works in our society. Many are left out, living on the margins, and dismissed as “the other”. The only way we can heal this is to stop believing (in our minds or in our actions) that we’re different from one another. We are all connected. We always were and we will always be. We ARE all in this together. If you believe this, perhaps ask yourself what can you do differently to affirm that truth? Just one thing? Then another, then another. I’m right with you…💕

I make a habit of journaling almost every day. It allows me to sit back and connect with myself, and it also helps me understand where I’m at, especially when the feelings I’m experiencing seem complicated. The words that flow out of me, no matter how I’m feeling, become “The Story of My Life”, a roadmap from “here” to “there” such that I can follow along with the ongoing evolution of “me” throughout the years - the highs, the challenges, and yes, also the lows. If you don’t journal, maybe consider talking into a recording app. No pen, no paper, no hassle. Either way, it’s a rewarding practice that says “I was here.” 💕

Happy last day of 2022! Here’s an exercise you may want to do as you consider the upcoming new year. It can bring clarity to an otherwise “scattered” bunch of thoughts in your mind about what you like to do, want to do, and want or need to do less of. What’s your purpose? Not forever but for now. This helps illuminate it. The results can help guide you as you move forward. 💕

This chart helps us understand that if we remain in the “comfort” zone, we’ll never reach the “growth” zone. Isn’t that where we hope to get to? If fear didn’t own you, would you reach for growth? If so, I’ll see you there because life has taught me that it’s the very best place to hang out. We can experience life at it’s fullest in that place but we don’t have to remain there. We might want to step back into the “learning” zone to prepare ourselves for goals we want to work toward in the “growth” zone. So we it’s a back and forth ‘dance’ that we engage in over time. And don’t be hard on yourself for hanging out for periods time in the “comfort” or “fear” zone. Who hasn’t been there?? We just don’t want to get, well, too comfortable in those two zones, otherwise we cheat ourselves of becoming who we are meant to be. And don’t you just want to find out who that is?? 💕 (Original designer of chart: unknown)
