Tis the season for congestion, runny nose and all the fun symptoms that come with cold/flu season.🤧
Did you know that acupuncture can help with these symptoms?! let me explain a little.
✨In TCM the cold/flu is an invasion of external pathogenic factors, typically wind-cold into our body through the skin/pores/mouth/nose.
✨Acupuncture can help treat the root cause of your cold/flu by releasing the exterior, eliminating wind cold, warming and nourishing the body, and tonifying qi (specifically wei qi). Wei qi is our defensive qi and protects the body against pathogenic invasions, it’s our first line of defense!
✨Acupuncture can not only help reduce your symptoms such as runny nose, congestion, cough, body aches, chills, sinus headache, etc but can reduce the duration or your illness and help bring the body back to homeostasis post illness! Acupuncture can also be used as a preventative tool and we can work to strengthen your wei qi and immune system to reduce your chances of catching that nasty cold/flu!
Here are a few tips for the winter months:
1. 🥶Keep your body covered in the elements. Especially the face and neck, this is the area where external pathogenic factors enter easiest.
2. 🍲 SOUPS! Eat more warm and nourishing foods such as soups, stews, and tea. Avoid excess raw cold foods such as smoothies, raw vegetables and salads as they can create more internal cold within the body when eaten in excess.
3. 🧘🏼♀️Excersise regularly. Doesn’t have to be a marathon but keeping moving helps our qi to circulate freely throughout the body reducing stagnation!
4. 😴 Proper sleep! Sleep is time for our body to rejuvenate, replenish blood and qi, build strong immunity, rest and restore.
5. ☯️Go for regular acupuncture to keep your body in a homeostatic state and boost your immune system.
Next time you’re feeling under the weather, book in for an acupuncture session, you won’t regret it and your body will thank you!
