Merlin, the free bird ID app developed by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, has been a wonderful addition to our walks.

It has Sound ID.

We can definitely hear them before we ever see them!

Today...

Grosbeaks

FOCUS!! This seems to be the topic at hand lately.

Today is the last day to register for my all new β€œFOCUS in the Search” class, designed to work purposeful and environmental distractions in a search. Really loving how this class is coming together and my goal with it to help teams achieve that search focus from start to finish.

Focus was also the topic in our next podcast, just published in time for June!

Both my shoulders have very yucky xrays (yucky being my very non-medical term).

Big thoughts after my orthopedic surgery appointment...

What if non-trauma, joint replacement surgery was not necessary?
What if we could address the chronic pain with these joints and thus improve function? If you improved joint function would joint replacement still make sense?

20% after joint replacement are not happy.
80% are what???

What is the placebo effect of joint surgery in this 80%?
You've waited so long for this surgery to relieve pain, why wouldn't a placebo effect be part of the response?
(See FIDELITY trial on meniscectomy surgery)

My very kind, expert surgeon, drew a diagram of the recommended joint replacement surgery she proposed for my shoulders. And while she was impressed by my improvement in function, she stressed my joint degeneration was progressive and this surgery will be needed.

She also let me know that the patient was the in the lead for joint replacement surgery not the xrays. So if the xrays were very yucky (my term) and the patient could function, she would wait.
But if the xrays were not so yucky (again, my term) but they were in a lot of pain, she would schedule them for replacement surgery.

Soooo what if non-trauma joint replacements were truly not necessary?

Off I go to find the ways to improve my joint function while
being aware of my chronic pain.
