Too many people are greatly underestimating the power of kindness.

Why? I think it’s because people have this idea that being nice somehow makes you weak.

They’re afraid that if they don’t bring down the hammer, people won’t respect them or they’ll get taken advantage of.

I want to change that idea.

Candor is not an excuse not to be kind…and being kind doesn’t prevent you from being an effective leader.

Found deep in the woods — and honestly, it was this community that found it. People who saw the post, people who saw Owen’s story, people who kept an eye out. That’s not nothing.

It’s not in great shape. Ignition torn apart, canopy gone, tire beat up, bills to get it back here aren’t cheap. But it’s home, and that’s what matters.

My dad’s coming over this week to help fix it up. Three generations under one hood — my dad, my son, and me, all working on the same truck.

And right in the middle of all of it — still got a 16km run in. 54K on 54 doesn’t wait for a quiet day.

Some repairs are on trucks. Some are on people. You just show up and do the work — together.

People think runners run for fitness.
And yes, that’s part of it.

But sometimes, running becomes the place you go when life feels heavy.

It clears the mind.
It helps process the emotions that are hard to put into words.
It reminds you that you’re stronger than the difficult days.

Running becomes a constant when everything else feels uncertain.

So yes, runners run for their health.
But sometimes, they keep running because it’s good for the mind, too. 🏃‍♂️❤️

The race sold out. So I’m making my own.

October 3rd is my 54th birthday.

So I’m going to run 54K on 54.

My own route.
My own challenge.
And this time, I won’t be doing it alone.

Amy is running it with me. ❤️

There happens to be a 50-mile ultra happening that same day.

I kind of love that.

I don’t need their race.

I’m going to create my own.

I’ve got a few weeks to get ready.

Let’s see where this route takes us.

54K. 54 years. October 3.

Everyone wants to be happy now, but it might be better to optimize for being satisfied later.

Perhaps the key to happiness is to not worry about being happy today, but rather to make choices that will leave your future self feeling satisfied with how you chose to live. Do you feel a sense of satisfaction with the choices you made? With the way you lived today? With the things you chose to focus on over the last year? Are you "happy" with the impact you are making?

Momentary happiness is hard to predict, but deep satisfaction is easier to control. It is on the other side of good choices, good habits, and meaningful impact.

Movement Monday 🚲

Sometimes movement isn’t about going faster.

It’s about getting outside.
Getting on the bike.
Following the trail.
Finding a little space to breathe.

Today’s reminder: keep moving. Keep exploring. Keep saying yes to the adventure.

Whistler to Pemberton. One overnight. Two bikes.

Lately I’ve been chasing a simple question: What if adventure is closer than we think?

This trip reminded me that we don’t always need a passport, a big budget, or a perfect plan. Sometimes all we need is a free evening, a loaded bike, and the willingness to leave the front door.

What’s an adventure that starts close to home for you?

Repair Is the Real Alchemy

I’ve made mistakes as a father.

I’ve made mistakes as a partner.

And if I’m honest, the moments that shaped me most weren’t the ones where I got everything right… they were the ones where I chose to come back.

To apologize.

To listen.

To own my part.

To rebuild trust.

Our kids don’t need perfect parents.

Our partners don’t need perfect humans.

They need people who are willing to return after the rupture.

That’s the kind of leadership I’m practicing these days.

Not perfection.

Presence.

What’s one relationship in your life where repair changed everything?

Stolen Vehicle – Please Keep an Eye Out

Our son’s 1995 Toyota Tacoma was stolen sometime between 11 a.m. on July 21 and the morning of July 22 from the Garibaldi Park Road / Elfin Lakes Trailhead parking lot.

He was out on a solo overnight hike and came back to find his truck gone.

This truck has been in our family for years. My dad gifted it to him when he graduated, so it means a lot more than just getting from A to B.

We’ve already filed a police report and are hoping the community can help keep an eye out. We also don’t have theft insurance, so we’re doing everything we can to try to track it down.

Details:

• 1995 Toyota Tacoma
• Plate: VR3649
• Canopy
• Fog lights
• Tailgate pad
• Front and rear hitch receivers
• We don’t have many photos, unfortunate

It had a canopy on it. - whiteish

Truck was greenish with black trim around tires

It had tools hidden in the cab.

The cab was dark grey and black.

It had a yellow fish decal on the canapy window

It had reflective red tap on the bumpers

It had a new driver decal on the back

It had an Evo bike pad on the tailgate.

If you’ve seen it parked somewhere, noticed it being driven, or have any information at all, please send me a message or contact the Squamish RCMP, referencing the theft from the Garibaldi Park Road / Elfin Lakes Trailhead parking lot.

Also, if anyone knows of local Facebook groups or other places where it’s worth sharing stolen vehicles in the Sea to Sky, I’d really appreciate the recommendations.

Thanks everyone. Hopefully the power of this community can help bring it home. — in Squamish.

A lot has been happening behind the scenes lately.

Long days, some hard moments at home, my son’s truck was stolen this week, and trying to stay present through it all.

I haven’t been posting much, but I have been riding.

The bike isn’t always about adventure.

Sometimes it’s just the place where everything gets a little quieter.
