April 16-22 is Oral, Head & Neck Cancer Awareness Week.

What a good time to remember that oral health includes more than just clean teeth and fresh breath. Good oral health also means having your mouth checked for signs of oral cancer. Risk factors include: Smoking, alcohol, sun exposure, Infection of HPV-16 Virus, and poor oral health among others.

The best way to prevent oral cancer is to change your habits to reduce the risks and adopt healthy habits.

Dr. Arize Agunwa is an experienced family physician with over 20 years of clinical practice across three continents. He completed his training in the United Kingdom and has cultivated a deep passion for providing comprehensive, patient-centered care. His special interests include elderly medicine, women’s health, and mental health, reflecting his dedication to supporting patients at all stages of life.

Before his appointment in Whitecourt, Alberta, Dr. Agunwa successfully ran a thriving family practice in Ontario for over two years, where he worked closely with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient care. His approach to medicine is rooted in collaboration, ensuring that patients receive seamless, integrated care tailored to their individual needs.

In his professional capacity, Dr. Agunwa is committed to enhancing healthcare accessibility, fostering continuity of care, and strengthening multidisciplinary collaboration. As many are aware, there have been confirmed cases of measles throughout Alberta.
The below is important information you should know:

Symptoms can include:
•fever of 38.3°C or higher; and
•cough, runny nose, or red eyes; and
•a red blotchy rash that appears 3 to 7 days after fever starts (the rash starts behind the ears and on the face and spreads down the body and then to the arms and legs)

We are asking that if you are experiencing any of the above symptoms to please get in touch with 8-1-1 where a qualified professional will provide you with the best next steps.
