Had quite a bit of fun taking pictures for this week’s video thumbnail 🤣🤣🤣

Guess what I’m talking about?

That’s right - pushing stage mistakes 🙃

The mistakes I’ve seen done over and over in my 10+ years as a pelvic floor PT and that have cost my clients months of rehab.

There are two ways to push a baby out.

Unfortunately, you'll only hear about one of them in the birth room.

And used excessively, that technique can lead to more pelvic floor injuries like prolapse & tearing.

So what about the second technique?

Don't worry - I got you.

In this week's video I walk you through both pushing techniques, pros and cons of each, and how to practise them right now during pregnancy.

So you walk into that birth room with options and feeling like you actually know what you're doing.

The kind of confidence that will make your providers think you've done this before.

Yesterday, my web developer sent me a final email.

I clicked the link.

And she was here.

I couldn't take her to my chest and kiss the top of her head. But the tears came anyway.

Four months of work. A full rebrand, a professional photoshoot, and a complete website rebuild, all squeezed into the margins of clinical work and family life.

It started a year ago when I looked at my bright purple Canva logo, the one I designed myself when I launched Beyond Birthing back in 2015, and thought... this is not me anymore.

I was 28 then. No kids. A fire inside. Everything to prove.

Nine years, two pregnancies, two births, and two postpartum journeys later, I had changed. Deeply. And my brand needed to catch up.

I wanted people to feel something when they landed on my website. Something earthy. Rooted. Warm.

Like the cycle of a seed growing quietly in the belly, blooming at birth, and being nurtured through every season of motherhood after.

That's Beyond Birthing.

That's what I do.

And now, finally, that's what you'll see when you find me.

I am so proud of this work 🥹

Go take a look and tell me what you think in the comments.

It genuinely means everything to me to hear from you, because you stayed top of mind the whole time as I was moving through this journey.

I thought of you the other day while I was camping.

My toddler had just gotten himself into a bunch of rose bushes with his tricycle. I could see the drama coming from a mile away so I just picked him up before the meltdown started.

25 lbs on one side (my toddler). 10 lbs on the other (his tricycle).

And I had to walk all the way back to camp like that. He was NOT happy about being rescued, so let me tell you it was not a peaceful walk.

But somewhere between the rose bushes and the campsite, something clicked for me. A thought about pregnancy, birth prep, and what it actually means to feel ready for what's coming.

I couldn't shake it.

So that evening, once the kids were finally sleeping and I had a rare moment to myself, I sat down by the lake, watched the water, and pressed record.

No script. No teleprompter. Just me, the lake, and what was on my mind.

It's only 7 minutes. But it's one of those videos I think every pregnant mama needs to watch.

(Fair warning: it's almost a one-take video. Almost. I had to make 2 cuts because the mosquitos were absolutely relentless and I had to pause to fight them off. Yukon summers, you know.)

“I wish I had known before saying yes.”

This is one of the things I hate hearing most from mamas after birth.

Because by the time you’re in the birth room, it’s often too late to research, ask questions, or fully understand what you’re agreeing to.

Episiotomy. Vacuum. Forceps.

These procedures can be offered to you in the middle of a contraction, when you’re in no state to think things through.

As a pelvic health physio who has worked firsthand with mamas recovering from these interventions, I can tell you: the ones who feel most empowered in that room are the ones who knew what to expect before they got there.

So I made a video walking you through all three. What they are, what the research says, and the questions worth asking your provider before your due date.

Watch it before you need it. Link in bio.

I know there can be a lot of apprehension about getting an internal pelvic floor exam.

Maybe you’ve had bad experiences with gynaecological procedures.

Maybe you’ve experienced trauma.

Or you have your own reasons. There’s no need to justify.

What I like to do with my clients is to first review on the pelvic model what I’ll cover during the exam so they know exactly what to expect.

I explain what muscle tone is and feels like and what I’m going to be looking for.

I go over pelvic floor strength and release ability with clear visuals and how I assess them.

Most importantly - I get their consent and I keep asking for consent throughout the exam.

“Is it okay if I gently go over the left side to look at your tone?”

“I’m going to move slightly further here if that’s ok?”

I keep eye contact and if at any moment I sense that she’s not okay, I follow my gut feeling and I say “let’s take a break” - then we discuss and decide if we continue or not.

And if we don’t, it is totally OK.

Many times clients have emotional releases during internal work.

Because as women we hold so much in our pelvic space. We hold the things we remember and even the things we don’t.

And sometimes all we need is someone to hold space so we can let go of that baggage and freshen up the air in that space. Reset.

This work can be so transformative and I’m humbled every day by the power of internal work, not only at a strict physical level, but also energetically (if I dare sounding a bit woo woo, but if you know me well you’ll know I’m actually quite woo woo for real in my personal life!)

So anyhow - my point is… if you’re holding back from seeing a pelvic health PT because you’re scared of internal work, find a provider you trust and challenge that fear.

What if this work could unlock something that could transform the connection to your root and centre?

A successful week of camping with our young kids ❤️

It takes patience, perseverance, organization, resilience, flexibility, acceptance.

But the reward is absolutely unbelievable.

We had a total blast and the kids are getting used to it more and more. And we are STILL tent camping!

Did we rest? No.
Did we sleep in? Definitely not 😅

Would I do it again? In a heartbeat 💗

Do you camp with your kids, and if so how old were your kids when it started getting easier?

Would love to hear inspiring stories 🥰

Thanks to my amazing models who were so patient and brilliantly posing and just going with the flow. I was so impressed with you all!!

Thanks to ali for the stunning makeup and Tellyse Parent for the beautiful hair - I felt like a star with you ladies!!

And thanks to my partner for supporting the whole thing, bringing the kids in at the end of the day for some family pics and taking on parental duty that whole day to allow me to do this ❤️

Can’t wait to see the final shots - with 1200 photos to sort through, there’s still work ahead!

Excited to present our new branding!!!! 😍😍😍

I’ve been secretly working on this project with for the last few weeks and so amazed with the concept they developed for Beyond Birthing.

They really nailed the essence of the work we do and magically created a branding that truly feels aligned with our mission to help mamas prepare, birth, heal and thrive ❤️

From the colour palette to the different designs, the fonts, the logo, everything has been thought through so carefully.

Thanks so much for your outstanding care and genius creative. It was a true pleasure to work with you.

Next steps: photoshoot and website design 🔥
