We are starting a new Friday series where we will pause alongside you to take a moment to remember those who have gone before us, those we wish were here. We like to do this by taking a moment in song. Please join us as we hold close in our hearts those who are hurting, those who are grieving, and those whose hearts are full of love for their people who no longer walk this earth. Join us as we listen to "Long Ride Home" by Patty Griffin. And come back next week to see what song we choose.

Eric Peter Johansen April 20, 1949 -June 4, 2026

It is with profound sadness, that the family of Eric Peter Johansen announce his passing on June 4, 2026.
After graduation from UBC in 1973, Eric left the bright city lights for life in the Cariboo with the Ministry of Forests and never went back. As an RPF, he worked in Alexis Creek, Quesnel and Williams Lake, quickly becoming a part of the Cariboo Forest Region family.
He never let early mishaps in his life dictate how he should live, and followed his love of working outdoors through fishing, gardening, bee keeping, winemaking and other pursuits. Eric was a generous man who gave back to the community through his board membership with the Cariboo Chilcotin Child Development Centre.
He liked to celebrate his Scandinavian (Danish) culture throughout the year, especially with food and never failed to introduce unsuspecting newbies to AKVAVIT. After retirement, he concentrated on travelling and building a home on Sapeye Lake in the West Chilcotin. This was his Happy Place.
Parkinson's and Dementia disrupted the last few years of his life, but like the stubborn Dane he was, he died on his terms.
Left to remember him is his wife of 53 years Shona, brothers, Arne (Pauline). Carl (Alison), his sister Laura and a large extended family scattered around the country.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Seniors Activity Centre on July 10th from 1530-1730. His ashes will be scattered in a private family ceremony at Sapeye Lake in September 2026.

๐ŸŽ—๏ธ INTRODUCING THE GOLDEN CIRCLE OF CHAMPIONS ๐ŸŽ—๏ธ

This year, the Williams Lake Stampede is proud to launch the Golden Circle of Champions, a new initiative dedicated to supporting a local family facing pediatric cancer.

In this arena, no family rides alone.

Join us on Sunday, June 28, as our Stampede community comes together to stand beside one of our own. Through the Golden Circle of Champions, every ticket purchased helps support a local family through one of the toughest rides of their lives.
Because rodeo is more than a sport. It's a community. And when one family faces a challenge, we ride together.

Golden Circle of Champions takes place during Sunday's Stampede performance.
Every ticket helps. Every dollar stays local. Stay tuned. In the coming days, we'll share more ways for our community to get involved and support this local family.
