We are very grateful to have Mary here at TCHSS to share her knowledge with us. Through her deep connection to Secwépemc culture and traditions, Mary helps preserve important teachings, strengthen community understanding, and inspire others to honor and carry these traditions forward.

🌿✨ Meet Our Artist Spotlight: Mary Harry ✨🌿

We are honoured to introduce Mary Harry, a talented Secwépemc artist whose work is deeply rooted in culture, family, and tradition.

Mary is a Secwépemc woman with roots in Stswecem’c Xgat’tem (Canoe Creek/Dog Creek), T’exelc (Williams Lake First Nation), and Esk’etemc. Raised with the teachings of her parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents, she carries forward generations of knowledge through every piece she creates.

From a young age, Mary learned the importance of connecting with the land, harvesting traditional medicines, and honouring the wisdom of her ancestors. These teachings inspired her lifelong passion for Indigenous arts and cultural practices.

Through beading, sewing, and traditional handcrafted work, Mary shares the stories, values, and strength of Secwépemc culture. Her creations reflect the beauty of the land, the resilience of Indigenous women, and the powerful bonds of family and community.

For Mary, creating is more than art—it is a way to honour her ancestors, preserve cultural knowledge, and inspire future generations to carry these teachings forward.

We are grateful to have Mary's beautiful work featured in the Northern Secwepemc Cultural Centre Gift Shop and invite you to stop by to see her handcrafted creations in person.

Thank you, Mary, for sharing your gifts and helping us celebrate and preserve the rich traditions of the Secwépemc people. ❤️

📍 Visit us Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–4:00 PM, and support local Indigenous artists by shopping authentic, handcrafted pieces.
