β³οΈ as massage therapists, we encounter the good to the bad + everything in between that people are going through. From pregnancy announcements, loss, births, deaths, diagnoses, new homes, promotions, first steps, last breaths, job losses, relationship losses, first dates, to ordinary mundane days + stresses
β’ intuitive + empathetic practitioners create the space for clients to πππππππ + just be
β³οΈ sometimes we take things on unknowingly + need implement non-negotiable boundaries with our self-care and physical health outside of the treatment room, allowing us to show up even better for those who show up on our tables
β’ here are some ways to tend to yourself as the person who tends to others:
β book yourself in for services when you can:
β£ weekly treatments may not be realistic for most, but maybe find something seasonally to do
β£ try a blend of manual work + energetic work to help better balance yourself
β romanticize your off days:
β£ pivot the urge to mindlessly scroll when you have down time
β£ write out what your ideal free day looks like + see if you can do 1 or 2 realistic things on that list
β enjoyable movement:
β£ whether it's walking, weekly pilates or cycling classes, a yoga practice β finding the time to move is essential for massage therapists
β£ adding heavy weight-training days a few times a week will help strengthen our bodies which will increase the longevity in our careers
β lean into community:
β£ reach out to other massage therapists, friends, family + talk about any struggles you may be experiencing
β£ ππ ππ πππππππ
β go touch grass:
β£ we are cooped up in dark quiet rooms for most of our days, take advantage of the good weather when you can
β³οΈ I've been working on implementing these things into my own self-tending lately with walking / gym 2-3x a week, increasing my water intake, booking in regular massages, reading more, and this girl is going back to therapy next monthβ¨. I also have a weekend planned coming up that will be filled with breakfasts in bed, buying a bouquet of flowers, gardening + journaling in a coffee shop all by myself
