Supervision!

I’ve started offering supervision this past year and it blended my love for teaching, coaching and mentoring with making real meaningful change for therapists wanting to go deeper. When I say I owe my clinical skills to every small group, consult group, 1:1 consultation and supervision … I’m not lying. It’s been instrumental in my confidence, success and growth.

Now I get to do the same for others, while still engaging in regular consultation for the deeper work.

The three things I love to do to support learning are:

1. Roleplay - how does the client show up and how might they respond? Nothing is worst then getting clinical guidance and thinking ‘but you don’t know them, I do and that doesn’t work’.

2. Im a talker and I get excited; especially about things I’m excited about. The last thing I want to do is overwhelm you by talking and you writing notes. So I do it for you! We go over key points at the end and then I put them in your profile for you to always access.

3. Lastly, collaboration. You’re allowed to say ‘Bianca, I know what’s coming up for me and I’ll take it to therapy - I do need some clinical guidance and practical steps to move through this’. Ofcourse I’m here to work through transference and counter transference but I also know what it’s like to want tangible step by step skills and tools to move forward the next time you see that client.

I’m not taking 1:1 supervisees right now but I’ll be opening up space for small group come the fall ☺️

It has taken me over 3 years to finally allow balance into my life . I treated rest and connection as a reward on the weekends (which I finally started working only every other weekend this summer). Work weeks were ‘for work only’ and it kept me quite literally chained to my desk or therapy chair.

Free time? Meant PD / CE.
White in my calendar? Meant more room for work.
I worked until 8:30-9 most days which meant very little connection at the end of day and very late dinners that disrupted my sleep / digestion.

This actually didn’t bring me any closer to my goals, it made me extremely miserable, cynical, exhausted, moody and every thing else I did not want to be. My relationships suffered greatly.

It was easy to know what needed to be done but the compulsion to work and succeed was so much greater. Even posting this I thought to myself, will people take me seriously if my ‘work day’ looks like this?

Spending moments in the sun and stillness has quite literally transformed me personally and professionally. It sounds so silly but the most obvious and mundane things do really work.

Breathing properly
Slowness - moments without a phone
Movement
Connection (the biggest one for me)
Nature (another big one for me)
Permission from all my parts to rest.

I stopped checking my phone with every free second and picked up a book in between.
I eat my lunch and breakfast outside when I can.
I get up earlier to move my body before being present for everyone else.

This day is a one off to be honest and the most balance I’ve ever fostered. The summer is slower for business and this used to send me into a panic. Now it’s truly the greatest blessing.

It’s taken me over 3 years of intentional work that included EMDR, brain-spotting, IFS, somatic work, reflection, connection and hard conversations to really slow down and become present.

For anyone else’s’ compulsions that show up in achievement, safety with work and doing, I see you and I know how hard it is 🫶

I am a therapist first and always will be. However, as someone who likes to wear many hats and keep things exciting and different, I love to have little side quests alongside my group practice role and individual clients.

These are some of the ways over the years I have diversified my income and work load- to keep things fresh, exciting and push myself out of my comfort zone.

One thing I know I love is mentoring, teaching and leadership. All of these roles on the side has allowed me to step into that and keep things alive.

Burn out is thrown around in this field so often but we often don’t talk about how to reduce it before we even get there. I’ve done a ton of research on body based techniques for burnout because surprise - Mika and I have started a business in supporting front line, professionals, healthcare and others how to combat burnout from a full psychological, somatic, emotional and spiritual approach. More details to come soon, however …

Some things along side diversifying my income / workload that has helped me with burnout include:

Proper nutrition
Proper rest / sleep
Movement daily
Keeping things exciting - leading with purpose
Time in nature
Family / friends
Lots of the deep inner work about legacy burdens, not feeling enough and true nervous system health
And learning to honour my limits / truly slow down

Had this idea to share some of me side quests while I was getting my steps in this morning….

Have you ever considered different income streams as an entrepreneur, individual or therapist? You don’t have to be self employed to lean into different side quests!

I’ve always known I wanted to be a supervisor in this space and help clinicians grow, feel confident and show up the way they knew they can. I have been facilitating peer supervision with my team since we opened in 2022 as a group practice and fell in love with the process.

I finally completed my 40 hours of education and meet the criteria to be able to offer supervision for those with CRPO and OCSWSSW. I bring a blend of clinical modalities that target bottom up and top down approaches for each unique client case. I operate from a non-pathologizing, trauma focused lens that encompasses mental, emotional, physical, spiritual and sexual health.

My supervision is structured, intentional and relationally focused. We start with an assessment of your strengths, and identify areas of opportunities for growth. We review past cases that made you think “Do I even know what I am doing?” And identify the parts of you that get uprooted and awakened along the way (because you are human- just like our clients).

Strong supervision is key to feeling confident in session, easing imposter syndrome and allowing you to show up authentically as yourself in the clinical space.

My experience stems from education, residential, youth justice and community backgrounds. I have experience working with adults, children and youth. I have 5 years of experience in the private practice world specifically and have worked with nuanced and complex cases utilizing different modalities based on client’s needs. Clinically, I lean on Internal Family Systems, Somatic Parts Work, Attachment theory, interpersonal neurobiology, nervous system focused, coherence therapy, SAF-NET and incorporate talk therapy techniques (ACT, CBT, DBT, MI) along the way.

If you are looking to grow as a clinician, discover your strengths and begin to show up confidently in session. We might be a great fit to work together :)

I am so grateful for the work the does for our community and their extension Mission Promotional Products, a social enterprise that provides opportunities for those that have fallen on hard times.

I posted about pre order back in December for these crew necks and got an overwhelming positive response from the community. Thank you so much to those that wanted to be apart of this.

I can’t wait to see these out in the wild ☺️🫶

What if I told you I didn't believe you were "Disordered", "broken" or a diagnosis / label?

What if I told you there are therapists out there passionate about challenging the Western view of "mental health" and looking at you as a whole person- mind, body, spirit and soul.

That a lot of the "problems" adults come to therapy with were once clever solutions they needed as children......

I went to therapy for years, basic talk therapy with encouragement to change my thinking. I understood my way of thinking/behaving was not right but I could not feel differently.

I did a deep dive into trauma focused care and received a comprehensive understanding of toxic stress, adversity and trauma on both the brain and nervous system ... everything started to make sense.

I realized the foundation to long term change was truly a safe, therapeutic relationship paired with clinical skills that went deeper than thought challenging and reframing. I needed to unlearn my survival patterns, automatic behaviours, and create new neural pathways that were deeply ingrained from childhood.

And that is where Mindfully Me was born.

I welcomed on 9 practitioners who believed in the same approach - safety, co-regulation and openness to doing their own continuous work before leading others through the same.

Most of our waitlists are open, if you do not know who might be the best fit, please feel free to email or message. I am happy to connect you with someone that is able to fit your needs.

4 years ago I started my private practice- this was my first ever blog post on what led me down my trauma specialization and dismantling the pathogenic approach to mental health. So much growth has happened since then but my values stayed the same.

Today, I reflected on this younger version of me and how proud I am of her - she got me to where I am today.

Hi, I guess I this counts as my first blog post, something I would never thought I would be doing, especially on my own website. I guess I’ll give you a quick back story. My name is Bianca, born and raised in Ontario, Ca...

I was going some reflecting on how much of a privilege it is to do my job and to connect with the people I do. I was reflecting on the range of topics I get to discuss on such a deep level with clients and I made a list of some of my most interesting ones that definitely had me grateful for the internal space I hold for myself and ability to hold space for people’s parts, beliefs and thoughts from their completely unique experience with 0 judgement.

It always makes me smile when a client asks permission to bring up a ‘taboo’ topic or they ask ‘wait can I talk about this?’ I’m beyond honoured they trust me to dive in deeper and I do so with so much compassion and curiosity.

Not all therapists are comfortable speaking about the topics named above and perhaps one day, a certain topic could come up for me that might bring up something in me. However, the more I continue to do this work and learn to hold genuine space for people’s experiences, the easier it is to lead with compassion and curiosity that brings the most beautiful, interesting conversations based in safe connection. Something about a ‘taboo’ topic and a safe place just makes my heart so happy to be trusted to hold space within.

Please note - all the topics above are nuanced and client specific the way they are discussed. Clients autonomy, safety and individualized care always come first. Please remember these topics are not a substitute for professional psychotherapy or counselling.

This year I expanded my business into a group practice. I welcomed 5 practitioners onto my team who believe in mental health the way I do. Who saw my vision, sought out continous education and dedicated to learning more than traditional school taught us. They saw a human first approach to care, neuroscience and psychology.

It’s been a whirl wind of owning a physical business, seeing my full client load and balancing life.

To my surprise, Mindfully Me Counselling Trauma Informed Group Practice placed first/ platinum in counselling & therapy category and bronze in psychology clinic and holistic wellness in CommunityVotes - Windsor.

I can’t thank my clients, my amazing team, my mentors, supervisors, friends, family and everyone who has supported me enough- a true shoutout to Collin Bossé. I am truly nothing without any of you.

I can’t thank everyone enough for the support, shares, likes, votes, referrals and kind words. This was a true honour to recieve this recognition in our community.

I am forever grateful and truly in disbelief ❤️
