Genealogy and Remembering our Ancestors

Genealogy is defined as the study or tracing of lines of descent from an ancestor. Today’s genealogy buffs have a myriad of online platforms which assist them in their search, the most recognizable of these being Ancestry.com.

Ancestry has an extensive worldwide genealogical database. Within their site, tools are available to create profiles which include life stories, events, photos and vital statistics. Family trees are easily amended, allowing users to add or revise information on relatives within their tree.

The site also offers hints or ‘leafs’ where if a person who is in your tree matches other profiles on the platform, you are invited to see if that individual is the same person you have in your tree. Perhaps another relative has key information on your person of interest.

Genealogy as a hobby offers many rewards to those who undertake this venture. They learn about their past, their families and their heritage. The thrill of uncovering hidden clues from the past has intrinsic rewards.

Every Day is a Gift

We learn at a young age that life holds both highs and lows. A wedding day or a day which experiences the birth of a child is easily etched in our minds because of the warm memories that fill our hearts.

Sometimes, days are not as pleasant, and some even hold challenges, which at times are difficult to rise above. Losing a loved one is a trying time where sadness and despair are witnessed first-hand.

Life is a series of these pleasant and not so pleasant events where joys are experienced and trials are endured. And, life needs to be about how we choose to live each day and what we choose to focus on.

It’s about attitude and gratitude. Recognizing the positives and appreciating them in our hearts and minds is where it begins. A great deal of satisfaction can be found, simply in knowing we have tried our best to make the most of an event or situation that has entered into our life.

Life holds so many treasures for us. Sometimes it’s simply a matter of changing our perspective.
There are only so many tomorrows. It is important to remember that every day is a gift.
