As governments across Canada and internationally explore measures to restrict social media access for youth under the age of 16, the Bulimia Anorexia Nervosa Association (BANA) is encouraging families, educators, healthcare professionals, and policymakers to prioritize conversations about the impact of social media on youth mental health, body image, and eating disorder risk.

The discussion comes amid growing concerns regarding the effects of excessive screen time, algorithm-driven content, online comparison, cyberbullying, and exposure to unrealistic appearance standards on young people during critical stages of emotional and social development.

Thank you to Ricardo Veneza and CTVWindsor for inviting us to be part of the conversation.

June is officially Seniors Month in Ontario—a wonderful time to honour and celebrate the incredible contributions older adults make to our communities! 🌸

As we celebrate, it’s also important to raise awareness about health challenges that often go unnoticed. Eating disorders can occur at any age. When they develop or persist later in life, they can take a serious, devastating toll on every bodily system.

Let’s support our seniors by ensuring they have the awareness, resources, and care they deserve at every stage of life.

June is Men’s Health Month. 💙 When we talk about men's health, we need to talk about eating disorders.

Men facing eating disorders experience unique challenges—from heavy stigma and misconceptions to a natural reluctance to reach out for help. Because symptoms can present differently than they traditionally do in women, timely diagnosis and treatment are often delayed. Let’s break the silence and the stigma.

Today is World Eating Disorders Action Day, a global movement held every year on June 2. This year’s theme - “Stop Stigma, Start Care, Together” - calls on all of us to challenge harmful myths, expand access to support, and build systems of care that truly meet people where they are.

To honour the power of community and lived experience, we asked people what meaningful eating disorder care looks like to them. Their answers remind us that none of us are along when we work together for change.

Follow along this month as we share their stories - grounded in hope, honesty, and the belief that care should be accessible to everyone.

June is Pride Month—a time of global celebration and advocacy, but also an important moment to highlight the intersection between LGBTQIA+ identities and eating disorders.

LGBTQIA+ adults, adolescents, and transgender individuals experience a significantly higher risk and incidence of eating disorders compared to their cisgender and heterosexual peers.

This increased vulnerability is driven by layered factors, including minority stress, social stigma, discrimination, and intense pressure to conform to narrow societal or cultural body ideals.

It’s crucial to raise awareness, provide support, and foster a safe environment that embraces diversity, acceptance, and body positivity for everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
